Re: Peavey Wolfgangs

Ok I'm completely confused with these things. what is the
top model for a wolfgang? How do you tell if it's a USA model or and import?
Which models have flame maple necks (Like the one Kevin has in the classifieds) and which have birdseye?
I'd like to pick one of these up but I have no idea what the hell I'm looking at!
GC in boston has a ton of these used hanging on the wall
but I have no idea what I'm looking at and unfortunately
either do any of the employees in that joke of a store.
any insight would be greatly appreciated
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

Re: Peavey Wolfgangs

US specials are flat top, flat colors, 1 volume

Us standards- Flame top, Arched, Volume/tone, most have a little birds eye on the neck, some better, some worse

Imports- Flat Top with Flame, and I think the serials all start with like a 2/

Re: Peavey Wolfgangs

There are some US specials with maple tops (Special Deluxe?). Either flame top or painted (see KMaynard's ad in classifieds).

Yep, only the archtop (the Standard) has the birds eye neck.

Pretty good I think. The Starving Musician here in Santa Clara had a painted import special for a while @ $599. It went and that was while they were still being made. That price seems decent for our area.

Re: Peavey Wolfgangs

If it's an archtop, then that's a 1st year only US quilt top. Most likely that is a Korean flat top with quilt veneer. Nice color top, but you can do a little better on price on eBay. If you really like the color, it's not unreasonable. If he's local, you save on shipping making it a better deal.

So how can you tell if it's USA or Korean when you've got it in your hands?

korean is a flat top with a fake QUILT top
USA special is the same with a FLAME top, or no top at all
USA standard is an archtop

i think the signature isnt stamped into the exp model either. but i could be wrong.

I thought I'd resurrect this thread - just won the bidding on a USA Wolfgang Custom on e-bay. Blue quilt, but otherwise much the same as a Standard. Haven't seen it in the flesh yet, but the pictures were stunning. May have paid a bit over the odds for it, but you don't see many Wolfgangs over here & certainly not too many Customs. Blue is a favourite colour of mine & I always wanted a quality quilt top. From what you guys have told me, & the tryout I had of a Standard, it should play & sound ok. I'll let you know & post piccies when I collect it!
