• Bound top strat bodies- classy or trashy?

I'm just curious as to everyones opinions on the flat top / bent top strat bodies out there with binding arround them.

I think they are pretty darn good looking, however, a friend of mine thinks they are just about the worst.

Anyone care to share their thoughts and why?

Do you mean the pointier strat shapes that people like Anderson and Suhr use? I think those are gorgeous with binding.

In general, I like details that break up the face of the guitar. The strat is such a sexy shape anyway, so it's really nice to have the binding there to accentuate the curves.

Bindings can offer some nice color contrast too.

How can you not love these?

I kinda like the look, but I don't like the feel of the binding digging into my forearm. If it's just unfinished edges to make it look like binding, then it's better.
Still, I actually prefer to have neck and headstock binding than body binding.

I don't like the flat top Strat because they are harder for me to play but the bent op Strat are nice.
I had this early Tyler Sutido that had the Flat top and it was hard to play.

I'm a big fan of the bound strat body look. I only have one like that, but I want more.

Shawn Lutz's bound black strat is one of my favorite guitars owned by a JCFer.

Monte -

Your blue flame bent top that was on vacation at my house is without a doubt one of, if not the most beautiful bound Strat bodies I've ever seen. The creamy ivoroid binding against the deep blue stain was / is stunning.

Yeah, I like em...FWIW, the "bindings" on Andersons and Suhrs is not really binding per se, as it's a tape off prior to painting and staining with a follow up scrape to reveal the edge of the maple. Monte's rules.

I'm a sucker for bound body guitars. I found a beautiful looking bound body flame maple Ibanez in a pawn shop once, and almost bought it... and I don't even like Ibanez

I like natural 'binding' on a bent top, but flat tops with plastic binding don't do anything for me....(like creme pickups, they're very old school, but not me!)

I do not have one but I love the way the binding looks as for comfort guess I would have to play one first but it is pretty no doubt about that.
