• Kinda cool score... Ibanez RG450 - anyone?

I was doing my rounds through a few local guitar stores yesterday and came across a neat Ibanez that I couldn't resist.

It's a RG450, black w/black/white pickguard, H-S-H Ibanez pups, Lo-Pro trem, maple/maple neck with black dots. Basically the spitting image of the RG550 with a little more substantial neck and probably Korean made. Very cool vibe, to be sure! I thought it was a 550 until I looked a little closer. The bridge pup isn't original - it looks like a Duncan, but all there is on the back is an "R". Any idea what the heck that night be?

Anyway, it had some pretty heavy strings on it and some scratches (black guitar - who'd a thunk it?), but after pulling it apart a polishing it up a bit, throwing some 10's on it, and giving it a quick set-up, it seems to be a cool axe - out the door at Music Go Round for $129!! I haven't had a 'Nez in quite awhile, so this should be kinda fun! I should be getting my Charvel Fusion Deluxe (silver sparkle w/matching headstock) from Kory this week, so let the good times roll! Welcome back to the 80's!

Anyone else have one of these? What did/do you think? If I like it enough, I might try to score a RG450 DLX in white - same axe, but white with a rosewood board and the IBZ shark tooth inlays.

I don't have one, but for that price you can't beat it!!

I've never heard of a n RG450 before. Does it have the neck plate or the counter sunk bolt deal? Since it's a 450 it has the Wizard II neck. It's most likely a Japaneese made axe if I'm not mistaken. I think the 400's and above are the lower line Japaneese models and the 300's and below are Korean.

Killer score though. I would like to have it if you get tired of it.

It has the "sunken bolt" thing going on. I haven't head alot of time to REALLY look it over close yet, but I'll take a couple pictures and post a link to them a little later. It is pretty cool. I've only seen one other - all the rest have been the DLX versions in white w/pearl pickguard or black w/mirrored pickguard and the inlaid necks. Is the Wizard II neck a little thicker than the Wizard? It's slightly flatter thinner/flatter than Jacksons, but not like the RG550. That's THIN!

I'm lazy, but I'll get 'em going! BTW - mine is a Korean made guitar. There is one on www.chrisguitars.com but I think it's on hold. The one he has is a Japanese model though, and mine doesn't have the wood stripe up the neck that his does. It's pretty damn cool though. Got to playt it a bit more last night. Big frets and a flat neck - I haven't had a guitar with those traits in awhile!

Nice price dude The Lo-Pro trem is worth more than that on it's own. You should be able to find out where it was made by checking the serial number on the back of the headstock bro. It won't say "made in..." but you can check the number against the dating system detailed at www.ibanezregister.com
Agree that the bridge pup looks like a seymour, cant help you with the model though dude.

I have a '96, had it since new. Nice guitar for the money, like you said meatier neck than the 550 (which is a good thing IMO) and also the maple fretboard is nice. It is indeed Korean, but its certainly no worse than any Japanese axe I ever tried. No production flaws on mine. I pulled the single and threw in an EMG 85 in the bridge and 81 for the neck in it a couple of years ago, works really well for my tastes.

anyway enough of my babbling, and congrats on the score

Bah! I don't know my Ibanez trems. This one is nothing special. It's alot like the Jackson import trems on the Pro series. You're probably right, Fong. Anyway, it's pretty stable, and tuned fairly easily. No hang up as of yet - even though I'm sure it's been used a bit.

Thanks! I wish I still had all those guitars... The Charvels especially. Even though they didn't have the same "vibe" the BC Rich's had, they sure played alot nicer! I've just got the white LP Studio, the two "Olson Customs", the RG450, the Charvel Fusion (no pics yet), and the Jackson DK-2 right now. The Tobias is nice, but it's just one of the MusicYo ones, so it's not super special or anything. I don't really play it anyway. Oh, well...

Hi!

Good looking guitar. I´m just sorry to tell you that the bridge will let you down sooner or later. The Lo-TRS II-bridge is famous for it´s crappiness. If I were you I´d try to sell the guitar while the bridge is still functional. Lo-Pro Edge along with the original Edge are the best floyd rose bridges out there and but Lo-TRS II shouldn´t be even mentioned in the same sentence with them. But anyway it´s a really good looking guitar. Gongrats!
