Some of you might remember how a few weeks ago I sold off a couple of guitars. Well some guy from New York(off the gear page forums) wanted my PRS ME(about 1 month old). We talked and we agree upon a price of $4000 which for this guitar I thought was a hell of a price. I actually got alot of request for this one. Anyways he ask can he send me a personal check, I wanted a wire transfer but he didn't want to spend the $30 bucks( I should have known then I was dealing with a miser). I tell him alright but it will have to clear 1st(about 15 days). He send the check normal mail so about 6 days later I get it. At 1st I went to just cash it at citibank, but they give me this story that citibank is broken up into districts and 1 district doesn't have access to anothers records(whatever Wells Fargo is WellsFargo no matter where you go) So I email him the bank deposit stating that funds will not clear till the 12th no problem. Then he emails me a few days later a fax showing that the funds have been withdrawen from his account and can I send the guitar. Well I was in Vegas last week so I wasn't able to. So finally yesterday I send the guitar FedEx overnight(as a good faith gesture) the guitar weighs 30+ puonds, cost me over $105 to send. So all moning I keep checking the tracking #'s then about 15 minutes ago I get a email stating
"Hi Vincent,
The guitar and case have issues. My next e-mail will contain the
photos."
At this point I'm thinking OH FUCK it got trashed. About 2 minutes later I get a phone call from him, asking if I got the pics yet? I tell him I see that they are in my mailbox but they are a large file and it will take about a minute to get them. So I ask whats wrong(expecting broke in half news). he tells me the case and bridge have issues. I ask wahat, "the case is ripped up" and the bridge is"dented and has tarnish issues". I'm thinking what? Doesn't he know the bridge is supposed to look like that, and also there are dings in the guitar. Anyways here are the pics he sent me.
So I'm looking at these while he is on the phone with me, and I'm thinking and the problem is? He then states that how do we rectify this. So I tell him, look I'm sorry about the case, that's how I got it. I didn't think that these little scuff marks were a deal breaker on this, the case is suede and delicate. As for the Dings in the back of the guitar, I never saw them, they are the dots in the light of the back of the guitar(again sorry). as for the bridge screw(which he descibed as stripped) dam guess I did that when I lowered it a little. I always try to be extremely honest in all my guitar/whatever sales. I am kinda shocked because I gave this guitar to him for a dam good price, was more than gernerous with his payment, and even sent the thing to him overnight(on my dime). So I tell him look if your not happy send it back and I'll refund you, he says let me call you back. 2 minutes later he says I'm gonna send it back, will you split the shipping with me. I told him that I couldn't do that, that I had already spent too much time and money on this deal(I'm kinda pissed at this point). And I tell him "i'm not being rude here, but this is exremely nit picky stuff, If you look at anyguitar hard enough with a magnifying glass you will find problems/blemishes. Am I out of line here? I have never had this happen before. I mean this guy almost got $1000 off a new $8000 MSRP PRS. and he's gonna send it back for a screw(that's replacable and cost less than $50). As for the case I would have never even factored that in, he tells me he "can live with the dings". But the case and screw are the deal breakers. Oh well should have it back in a few days and then I'll send him his money back.
