• G&L Guitars

    Hey guys,

Since I've been selling off my gear slowly, I have enough $ to buy a new guitar. I wanted something maybe with single coils (never owned a guitar with em before), so my friend threw a G&L Legacy HB in my hands (more by accident, he just picked up the newest guitar they got in and gave it to me to play). This has to be one of the most comfortable guitars I've played in awhile. While I love everything about Jacksons, I'm less enthusiastic about the necks. I need a little something more in my hand, like the Gibson necks. I still plan to buy a few Jacksons later on, but at this point they're runnin a little expensive and I have a guitar that I love for playing metal and wanted to try something new. I was gonna get a $400 Tribute guitar since I haven't played in god knows how long, but the clean tones, sustain, beautiful fretboard grain and feel of the HB was so perfect that I changed my mind. I was amazed at the Randall MTS series amps too. I only played through the Blackface model, but that one just hit the spot so nicely. Threw down a little blues/classical thing and it was great. Might spring for that too later on, but I don't know how the heavier modules sound (I don't trust sounds clips).

There's my G&L story. Anyone else try/own one? What do you think of it?

my buddys got a tele watever GL calls it. quality stuff. my only gripe is the plastic 3 bolt neck plate & bridge. other than that i think its killer for a tele. the resale value on GLs isnt too good so you may want to try & find a used one

a friend of mine, Danny P. has an older S-500, with a birdseye maple neck and all. Overall, i thought it was pretty sweet, i liked the feel of the neck. it was on the thinner side, and the only thing i didn't like about it was that it felt really light, and personally, i need some heft to my instruments. but yeah. it was cool! you should score one!

The other guitar player in our band has a G&L, and it sounds and looks great. I'm not sure what model (strat shaped), but it's very nice.

They now have 4 bolts, not three...FYI.

            Great guitars.

I had an S-500 maybe 10 or so years ago. Great guitar, what an American Standard Strat should be but isn't.

I've always wanted a blueburst Comanche! Click Matt's link above... he's also a G&L dealer.

I have a George Fullerton Strat and it is the best sounding/playing strat I have ever played, IMO. I believe Jim Shine may be the best authority here on G&L's and I have heard they were hit and miss at one time or another but the one I have it 100% kick you in the balls stratocaster. No complaints here.

Wow dude, that one is really nice. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get the HB next week. I was just too impressed by the amount of tones I got from it that I couldn't resist. 2 single coils and a JB with coil tap gave me a lot to play around with. Might swap out the JB for a Rio Grande pickup though, maybe the Muy Grande, not sure right now though. Gonna probably buy a Peavey Classic 30 or the Randall MTS combo to go with it next month. Damn, I can't wait now, lol

                      Re: G&L Guitars

When I started playing again in '01 I went back to the guitar that got me started all those years ago and my man had a bunch of G&Ls on the wall. I gave him sh!t and he handed me a G&L tele with a birdseye neck and I STFU real quick. If I had any interest in tradational fenders, I would not hesitate to get a G&L. Quality and price were there. Thing is, I do not go for traditional fenders

They make a great guitar. Just have a FUGLY headstock on them.

                              Re: G&L Guitars

I actually like the headstocks. That little point before the ball kinda gives it a nice edge, well, to me at least. I'm playing it right now. The craftsmanship on these guitars are amazing. The fretwork is on point and not sloppy like on my Gibson. I'd definatly put this up there with the USA Jacksons I've owned. The 2 single coils and the JB (w/ coil tap) sounds awsome. I never owned a guitar with single coils and I'm getting some amazing tones. I'll post pics tomorrow, the finish is really freakin cool also, Blueburst over Swamp Ash. I like this so much I might actually get a custom shop in the next few months. It's not gonna be much more than I paid for this, maybe a little more because I'm not into crazy specs or anything. A nice greenburst with a maple fretboard and matching headstock will probably be it. The thing that surprised me is the trem on this. It's nothing than a plate with a hole and a piece of metal that goes into it. No locking the arm in or anything. Very simple and effective, but when I need my whammy fix I'll find another Soloist.

Bottom line, I love this guitar (and the new case smell). The neck is definatly one of my favorite things about it. Pics tomorrow!
