Yeah that is what i thought, i would assume the covers are kinda like putting a blanket over a speaker, muffles the high end. I think i might try removing the covers.

that^ and legend has it that back in the olden days of stock Zebras, guys used to pull them off if they had the coveted Zebra bobbin-ed PAFs.

I removed the covers from my Custom a few years ago - and yes - more high end...BTW - that Les Paul is stunning...Big congrats!!!
