  • ID Help - Richelieu Guitars?

I picked it up on ebay - all white neck thru Richelieu custom guitar...The body is like an old big bodied strat w/ an angled input jack - the pickup area is for an h-s-s- on a pickguard...The neck is routed for a locking trem, has 22 frets and has a pointy headstock...It came stripped down (no hardware) and I am puting in tuning heads, floyd rose, and loaded pickguards that I have been collecting for a while...Any one have any ideas or can direct me to where I can find out about it...I am told it is from Bridgeport, Conn. Help ! ! !

There's a couple of Richelieus on Harmony central at:-

    Either of them match yours?

They were made in Bridgport CT, but only for a very short time. I was trying to find some info on them a whila back and couldn't really find anything. The only model I am aware of is the Spectre which is sort of an SG type body with a 3x3 headstock. My buddy had one back in the late 80's, but thats the only one I've ever seen.

      How about some pics!

in fact they were operational for about 3 years (82 - 84), an had 2 models:

        - the Spectre

        - the Black Rock (remained only in prototype status)

The Spectre itself was a neck-through with a mahogany body (shaped like a cross between an SG and Strat), and with various pu combinations.
75 guitars were made in 2 variations:

        - 1st run: Richelieu logo on black peghead, 1 large and 1 mini toggle switch, Grover tuning pegs and DiMarzio pups

        - 2nd run: "Richelieu USA decal, 1 large and 2 mini toggle switches, Schaller tuning pegs

The serial number should be impressed in the back of the headstock!

Re: ID Help - Richelieu Guitars?

The guitar I have has no decals nor serial numbers on it...at least that I have been able to find....and I have been collecting guitars for a long time.....if there is a number on this ax, it must be covered in paint..! The guitar I have does not look like a "spectra", so do you or does anyone know what the "Black rock" looked or looks like?
I could be that I have been "duped"....But then it won't be the first time ! ! ! No matter what it is, it looks like a really nice neck-thru guitar! How do you post pictures in these postings anyway...I would love to put pics along with my questions.....like they say...A picture tells a thousand words.....and might hold the answer to my question.

Re: ID Help - Richelieu Guitars?

Finally, I have a photo of the Richelieu Guitar - it has no "hardware" yet....and I wish I had a photo of the backside so you can see the "neck-thru"...as it might be a way to truly identify it...but here it is and anyone who can give me any insights as to what it is...what model or if it is not a Richelieu....I am open to everyone's help.
