    ok here we go...

In my opinion is having fun with a guitar as important as the overal quality of the guitar (as long as it doesn't suck too much). I have a Squier, just a standard strat thing with a maple neck and I love it.. I have so much fun with it, the neck feels so perfect to me and it sounds very good. the single coils are really sparkly

I'm even thinking about picking up one of those squier '51 models (any feedback on those welcome!)

    what I'm asking you is:
    1. what's your general opinion about squier?
    2. does a guitar for you have to be of top quality?

ok I mean, a guitar goes out of tune with every stroke is terrible but easily fixed. I changed the tuners on my squier but that's a minor thing..

I have a beautiful ESP lying around but I spend more time with the squier haha

I also remember a story from this forum that was similar.. someone bought a squier for the same reasons but I don't remember who it was..
"I hate these filthy neutrals! With enemies, you know where they stand. But with neutrals... who knows? It sickens me!"

These aren't independent issues for me. It's hard to have fun playing sucky guitar. Where I think quality doesn't matter is in places that don't directly affect playability or the sound. There aren't too many of those though.

But, really, if you're having fun playing your guitar, why do you care what anyone else thinks?

BTW, I wasn't implying that Squires are sucky. I've never played one.

If you like it what dose it matter . As far as quality goes they can go from great to horrible like all production guitars.

The early to mid 80's Japan Squires are killer!

Yes they are. I had a band mate buy one new in 86 or so, and I couldn't put it down! Great guitar!

              Re: Squier

Anyone have a pointer to a squier fan boy site? My first electric guitar was a squier bullet circa 1987. It was MIJ, it had a strat body with a tele headstock. Alas, it was stolen when I checked it in as baggage on a flight.

Hey, I wasn't tripping on the tele headstock on the strat body! This is on eBay right now. And it's MIJ! I'd bid on it except my long lost first guitar was cream white.

                    Re: Squier

We had an early 1960s style Squier Strat at work for a while that was made in Japan in the 80s, it was one of the nicest guitars I've ever played. Those 51s arent too bad but I've never played a newer one that comes close to the quality of the old 80s ones.

Did (Fender) Strats look like that at some point? The proportions look different from what I'm used to. The upper cutaway looks really small, for example.

                        Re: Squier

I bought a squier in 1992, maple board/cream body and for the longest time it was my main guitar. I threw a 80's neon pink super distortion in it and it sounded killer. The guitar was so comfortible and rang out like you wouldnt believe. I still have the guitar but needs a new pickguard and some pickups put into it. Now it mostly sits in the corner.

The Squire Bullet up there is a whole different animal. That's a POS.
We're talking specifically mid eighties Fender Squire Vintage Reissues.
Don't go buy up every squire you see now!

Chuck, which Squier Bullet are you referring to as a POS? The one that I posted a picture of is MIJ circa 1985.

There's Squire, and there's Bullet. Two different things.
