Re: Carvin - who\'s gottem? What\'s the deal?

That 12 string is totally legit (non-photoshopped)...That was a total design blunder that didn't last very long at all! They also used to do that headstock on the doublenecks of the same period! I know of 2 people that had doublenecks that the 12 string headstock smashed off with VERY little effort.

Carvins rock! My white SC90 is the first one I got from them in 2002 off their In-Stock section. It now sports creme DiMarzios (Super Distortion & Super 2), and the two coil split switches are now an extra volume and tone, and the toggle switch is now a DiMarzio Petrucci switch so I can get the pups' inner coils working together in the middle position.

I also had a ruby redstain DC400 I got off ebay, then I wound up trading that to Jgcable for his DC120 12-string, then I eventually sold that on ebay. LOL The SC90 will be staying with me, as will my DC150 power amp. Carvin gear rocks!!

Again...the photo above is from my old house, but the Ampeg pictured was not...I REPEAT not mine!....LOL!

Re: Carvin - who\'s gottem? What\'s the deal?

I called one time with the intention of buying a 6-12 doubleneck. At the time the inline headstocks were standard. Yes, the 12-string inline on a doubleneck. Anyway, I asked if I could get the inline on the 6 and the 6+6 on the 12. The sales guy started giving me a bunch of shit about how that would be a "white elephant" and would have to be sold on a non-returnable basis. Yeah, that 12-inline thing isn't a "white elephant."

My biggest complaint about Carvin is that at any given time, approximately 75% of their sales guys are complete fucking douches. If you call to buy something with features that should be feasible (all their guitars are manufactured to order) and they don't want to give it to you... hang up, call back and get another salesman.
please don't put it into words, 'cause I fear what you're thinking

That's a nice pair! The photo also illustrates the difference between the Carvin pointy headstocks. The one on the left is the '88-89 version, and the one on the right is the one they used in '90-91. In '92-95, they kept the same basic design, but they 'uprighted' it in order to get a straight string-pull, because they stopped using locking nuts as standard equipment in '92. In fact, they stopped offering Floyds at all from 1993 to about 1995, I believe, and switched over to Wilkinson trems. Since '95 or so, the Floyds have been an option again.

I've never owned a Carvin guitar, but I use their necks to build my own guitars with. They are incredible, and highly underrated! Really nice feel to them! Also, their fretwork is impeccable! In the 6 or so years I've been dealing with them, and literally about 100 or so necks later, I've never had a bad one from them!

[/ QUOTE ]

I built guitars with them too! The set up is great on them. I only bought about 15 or so, but I have never had to level the frets or anything on them.
They rock.

<font color="aqua"> I also do as well. I usually modify them a bit such as adding veneers and shaping the end of the fretboard. Here's 2 of them:

Hey Dave, that's a gorgeous one. You say it's heavy, but is it big? Someone once told me they are not very big. I have hesitated getting one because I am worried it will look too small on me.

<font color="aqua">Actually they are "kinda" small. Just for your info the end points measure 15" across and the inside points measure 11" across. From upper strap point to the point that has the output jack, it measures 25" and from the point that goes under your arm to the opposite one measures 18". That should give you an idea or at least allow you to make a mock up of one for size. </font>

Erik that V is pretty cool. I'm actually considering getting one of the neck-thru blanks myself, and doing something unique.

Dave, thanks, those measurements will help. I'm going to make a mockup to see how it looks.
