My first really good guitar was a Frender strat much like that 79 but with a rosewood board and black pickguard. I love Strats. I recently built one with a 97 maple/maple USA neck and a seafoam green mighty-mite body, OFR and dual hums (duncans) and a 3 way.

I had a Japanese version, the '71 I believe. It wasn't too bad. Never tried an American Yngwie.

Had a beautiful Custom and a crazy looking Standard. Problem is I never touched them. I just don't like the shorter scale necks. Now, if I could find a 25.5" scale Les Paul, I'd be all over it like hair on a gorilla.

With Floyd and freaking high price tag though.
