• ESP Question

I found an ESP yesterday but I'm not sure if it's real. I've got some questions about it before I drop the cash.

It's a strat body, dual hum, with a one piece maple/maple neck. Standard ESP stratish style headstock. It has an ESP logo but it's not cleared over (I could easily pull it off). The bridge is a vintage style trem but has the metal bar screwed to the body and the base plate pivots on the metal bar (kind of like an old Schecter but vintage style),

The neck plate is a regular square strat style, no comfort route. It doesn't say ESP on it, it only has a 5 digit serial # starting with 0xxxx. The serial #is in small type at the top of the plate.

It's a great playing guitar but it's priced a bit high for a parts monster. If I were certain it was a real ESP I would have grabbed it yesterday.

Any help or insight is appreciated

Re: ESP Question

weird, maybe its an older Vintage model, but the more recent ones have the slanted heel and an ESP embossed logo on the plate.

no pickguard? can any one who has an M-II shed light on this?

Re: ESP Question

Nope, no pickguard. It's pretty much your standard Charvel styled "Super Strat".

Re: ESP Question

That trem is called the 'flicker' trem, and was in fact used on older ESP guitars. (Kramers too) I had a similar guitar that I recently sold to Budman. 2 hums, the flicker trem, and it did not have ESP stamped on the plate, which was also standard size. A pic would help, but I'd guess it's probably a mid 80's ESP.

Thanks for the info.

What's a decent price on one of these? They're asking $299.

Thanks,

I'd pay that for a nice playing ESP. Go get it!

Re: ESP Question

I second Surfdork. That is a good price and the guitar sounds legit. Those old ESP's are very very nice players.

Makes sense, since a lot of the Kramers were made by ESP anyway.

Re: ESP Question

It could be one of 500 series guitar they had in early 90's.
They usually come in Solid colors or Trans color over Ash body.
SSH configuration is the most popular one and also Black parts.
I used to see them at ESP shop in L.A. back in 91 or 92.

Re: ESP Question

I'm still working on it. I couldn't get by this weekend and I'm traveling on business the first few days this week. I'm going back when I get back in town to see if I can haggle with 'em.

The one thing that still bothers me is the decal not being cleared over.

Thanks for the info and the interest
