• Just Bought an Ernie Ball Luke! (Pics. Attached)

Just picked up a Luke. I already own a EBMM Petrucci & wanted another strat style EBMM w. a thicker neck. So far I like the tone & feel of this guitar. One difference I notice is that the frets on my Luke are smaller than my Petrucci. Then neck is also narrower but thicker. It has a V shape to the neck but it is very comfortable. It reminds me of the Fender Clapton neck.

Sweet score, man. How about a side by side with the Petrucci.

+1 Nice guitar. Love the figuring on the neck. The EB necks all seem pretty nice - I've got an Axis SS, but tried a Petrucci. Don't see too many EB's over here, so haven't had a look at a Luke yet, but yours looks cool.
Wal - Good from far, but far from good

Sweet! I want to find an older model with a Floyd. Gotta love the EMG 85 in the bridge that Luke helped design, too!

Thanks. Both sound incredible. Unplugged the Petrucci is louder but the Luke also sounds great too but brighter. The plugged in sound of the Petrucci is slighly darker to me. The Luke has much better single coil sounds as it uses real single coils vs the split HBs on the Petrucci. There is little to no noise on the Luke's coil sounds.

IMO the Luke is slighly more versitle. I thought that the middle pickup would bother me while picking & strumming, but it is really not a problem.

The Petrucci has a better Trem. I also like the bridge saddles on the Petrucci becasue they have rollers on them & feel more smooth when palm muting. The Luke has vintage saddles with "rough " screws which I am def. going to replace.

Finally I found that the Luke body was more comfortable for playing & palm muting as I never got used to the Petrucci deep fore arm cut.

Well, the Petrucci wasn't really made to get true single coil tones. The special DiMarzio switch is made to get the inner coils of the pups working together when in the middle position. I recently put one of those switches in my Carvin... it rocks! The coils are run in series so there's no single coil hum, but I also put in an extra volume and tone control like a Les Paul so now when I roll one of the volume controls off I can get only one coil by itself with the hum and a great single coil tone approximation (the pups are a Super D and Super 2... the hotter the pup, the closer it will sound to a single coil when split). One of the things I liked about the Petrucci was the deep forearm cut. It was an extremely comfortable guitar to play. I kind of wish I bought one when I had the chance. I guess I'll have to get one of those later on. Thanks for the comparison.

Yep, and that trem on the Petrucci was actually molded and formed after John's own hand, while it's resting on the bridge. Which makes it a really nice playing bridge, when muting or resting the hand.
