Since I got this new job I've been saving a lot of $. I can splurge a little without feeling bad, but I think this is even too much for me. I'm seriously thinking of pickin up one of the Dime Rust Razorbacks. Now granted, it's a beautiful damned guitar and god knows the man is an inpiration in more ways than one for me, but over $3K for a guitar I think is even nuts. I don't know what it is, but I'm fiending for that guitar and I can think of 20 others I'd buy if the Razorbacks never came out. What do I do here? I think the obvious answer is buy it if I can afford it, but goddamn, again, 3k?

Re: Stop me from doing something stupid
Ask yourself these questions:
-Is Dime such a hero to you that you feel compelled to own this particular guitar, or will other, less expensive, Dime models suffice?
-Is this $3K going to be needed elsewhere? Do you have the kind of luck that whenever you get a little money saved, something drastic comes up and you either have to spend the money or sell whatever you just bought to cover it (i.e. vehicular or medical emergency, etc)?
-Do you want this as an investment piece or as a player? Will you really enjoy it for what it is, or will you get rid of it "just cuz"?I want to depart this world the same way I arrived; screaming and covered in someone else's blood

Newc is right.Every time I get far enough ahead for gear, something always slides in and steals it away.If you think that there is nothing in your forseeable future that is going to jump up and bite you in the ass, i'd go for it!But if you have the slightest doubt,be smart.............Straightjacket Memories.Sedative Highs...........

Re: Stop me from doing something stupid
That's the thing. I can afford it as of right now. My financial aid went through, I paid off a lot of bigger bills....Oh man, I think we're going for a yes here (my luck is ok, but not great either). I mean Dime is a big reason I want the guitar, but I don't buy anything if it dosen't do anything for me, I don't care who or what it is. But the thing that I'm trying to sell myself is that it's absolutly killer lookin, a USA Dean which is damn good in it's own and has a floyd, which is something I'm dying for. Don't have to convince myself too much, but I don't buy anything without playing it and it's justifying that much $ is what I'm kickin myself over. I'm sure we all do it with major purchaces. I'll think about it some more. I've been writing some cool stuff now with a drummer, and I might just throw the $ to an ENGL halfstack and a new guitar to gig with, which sounds smarter for me in the long run. I hate being reasonable, something's gotta give to get something, but the new setup might be the right way to go here

Re: Stop me from doing something stupid
I think the reason I wouldn't buy a $3k guitar is becuase I wouldn't want to touch it. I wouldn't want to put a mark on it/ That's happened to me plenty in the past, and is the case currently. I do however have a $200 Model 1A that I never put down, as well as a couple of "broken in" Flod strats. Buy something you'll play and won't be afraid of banging into the wall on accident. Re: Stop me from doing something stupid
I've had that "too nice to play" experience, too. I had a Custom Shop Strat that I felt I should keep in the case, wipe down after playing, etc. Kinda takes the fun out of it, as far as I'm concerned.
If you're not prone to that, and you can swing it, go for it. You only live once.
On the other hand, if you get stressed by the $ or the notion that something can be too nice to get comfortable with, get one of the lesser Razorbacks, or maybe the FBD ML or the Dime-o-Flame ML, to still give you the Dime experience, while taking some of the stress out of it.

Re: Stop me from doing something stupid
If there's a guitar I really like but find it too expensive (for example a malmsteen strat) I would just buy a regular strat and mod it too my own likings.. it'll be your guitar, with your vibe and with a connection to your guitar hero"I hate these filthy neutrals! With enemies, you know where they stand. But with neutrals... who knows? It sickens me!"

Re: Stop me from doing something stupid
You gotta ask yourself: is this your ultimate dreamguitar. I can safely say 'no', because it definitly didn't sound like it in your posts. In fact this thread would be redundant if it was! So I say you should move on and leave the razorback be.
If it had been your dreamguitar, I'd say drop 3K on that baby and enjoy! You took too much, man. Too much. Too much.
