The 76' series are from what I understand. Dunno if they even make any other Explorer than that anymore

They discontinued the Explorer Pro...so the only 2 they still make are the '76 reissue, and the Studio...and yes. they are still US built.

usa or not, i've played a couple of the explorers and the quality is all over the place. the fretwork on some of these are really bad.

Yeah Gibsons are really sporatic these days in quality. They have about 30 guys at different stations building the guitars.

Jackson has about 3 guys working on each guitar.

They were good back when they first reissued the '76
Really good....as the 90's wore on, and into the 2K's....they started slipping exponentially thru the years.

My Gothic Explorer plays beautifully, but the fretwork was total crap and the electronics needed to be fixed when I got it. That in combination with their high prices kinda make me stray from their stuff. But when you do get a nice one it is beautiful

Gibson have to be the LEAST BANG FOR THE BUCK guitar there is. If you ever check out the Les Paul Forums it's nothing for those guys to spend 5K+ on a newpiece, then send it out for fret work and set ups, beofre they even get it. Then say what a great guitar they just bought. I don't get the Gibson appeal, way overpriced, sub standard construction.

+1. I mean just *look* at 'em. I've never seen a Gibson Explorer that gave me wood like that one. [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]
