Classics never got the long tenon, and after 1993, had "CLASSIC" printed on the headstock (except for special runs!), and a thick binding cutaway instead of the smaller "correct" binding.

Well, it very well could be a limited run Classic. I'm pretty sure that it had "Model" under "Les Paul and not "Classic." The neck was indeed a baseball bat!

Did Classic special runs have the green inlays and plastic? this one did not.

[/ QUOTE ]

Baseball bat neck immediately rules out a Classic.

One other possibility is that this might be a "pre-historic". Any historics made between 1982 and 1992 were called this. I think they might have followed the numbering like a Classic, so the 7 would indicate a 1987 pre-historic.

I think you really should get a peak inside the neck pickup cavity to see what type of neck tenon it has.

Ok, here's the deal. I posted about it on the LP forum and it is a Custom Shop Standard, short tenon and the pups are possibly 57 classics, jumbo frets. The guy that replied looked at it when it was in Mass. Uhg, don't know if I should go for it or not. I love it, but I really wasn;t looking for another LP right now. I need other gear and this will mess up the works.

Do you guys feel the price is inline with a custom shop Les Paul Standard?

Here it is........ and btw it weighs in at about 11 lbs. I like heavy Les Pauls.

I think that the Grovers would rule out it being a pre-historic, unless they were changed out. It's real nice whatever it is.

I am a custom man myself. It looks nice though. That is not my favorite burst color on a LP. Too much dark around the edges. I bet it sounds pretty darn good weighing in at 11lbs!!

I'm sweating bullets looking at that sucker balance on that chair.

Mark, you really would have sweated when you saw Jim spinning the chair around and commenting on how balanced that Les Paul is.

Well, surprisingly, it survived the chair. That was a pic that the feller who posted on the LP forum took a while back. I'm surprised that the chair didn't bust due to the weight of this thing. It's the heaviest LP I have ever played.

Nice LP!
It looks like Slash's signature model.

I have several Pauls, but if you really want a "ship anchor," you should strap on my '68 Custom Reissue. It's so heavy that when I play for more than about five minutes, the state of Louisiana starts leaning west towards Texas.

So Jim, when are you going to do some group pics?

You know, I was just thinking that I need to do that. I have a possible deal in the works for an SLATQM (just like Brads), This Les Paul and if I can properly motivate Slash, the dragon. I can't do all three so I'm kind waiting to see how it pans out. Once that's done, I'll make a family pics thread. I'm also trying to juggle buying a JMP-1 and a power amp. I really need help!

That is so cool Jim!
You are getting some serious cool gear.
I can't do mine but when I have enough stuff to show, I will.
I miss the days I used to post pics...
Do you still have your San Dimas model?
Hey Jim, if you ever decide to sell your amp, please let me know.... not now though but maybe soon. VERY.
