Since the ST-3 was just a modifed ST which was a strat with eagleish looking horns when they first started

This is the one I was talking about J...
Wayne did have a hand in the design of this one, but it was changed quickly.

And of course Tracii knew he was a Class Axe endorsee....He visited the factory several times while I worked there, and I got to hang with him, and talk shop. He's in the '92 CA catalog.

The Gunslinger was not designed by Class Axe, they were making them way before they bought them out.

Lee Garver Made me a couple around 88'.

The Assasin was a Class Axe Guitar

yep trying to figure out the lost era of BCR. from 86-89 preclass axe, 89-94 class axe era is the most difficult to pin down anything as far as BCRs. Bernie SR & JR were both infamous for giving out bad info almost as bad as Wayne. As far as i know there is NO good info on these boltons, especially since everyone wants to think there guitar was made PRE class axe. at the time not alot of people know about the buy out. Also you cant tell from hardware because before the buyout BCR used all sorts of hardware. they didnt care, you see all sorts of shit, USA with import tuners, mix o dimarzio & schaller & gotoh pickups.....it was the beginning of the end.
Ken while i dont doubt you about Traci Guns, he said on both BCRBB & Mosers he never owned any class axe made guitars. i for one dont believe that since the firebird that was made for him is class axe era by the order date on the invoice, even tho it still has the Cali, address on the order form.
the gunslinger if it did exist PRE class axe it wasnt around for more than a yr before the buy out.

Yeah...even for those of us who worked there too. (history)

Class Axe started out great and then slowly slipped thru the rungs in quality towards the end. The neckthrus were NOT US built....they were made in Mexico, and shipped to us as blanks. We would finish and assemble them. We did however, build all the bolt on stuff there. The Assasin and Outlaws were definitely Class Axe, the Gunslinger falls to close to the changover to say where it was first released. Some say they were out before Class Axe...I'm double-guessing it now. I suppose they were out then before Class Axe, but not in any numbers.

Re: Anyone know anything about BC Rich Gunslingers

Sully as a long time BCR collector the class axe era wasnt bad they were just different than the cali ones. The boltons MADE by class axe not the ones they assembled, had different routes & slightly different shapes than prior. kinda like sandimas - ontario for C/Js. Class Axe gets a bad rap because at the end of the 80's BCRs was building some really shitty guitars. from what i was told Bernie fired all the builders in cali except Neal & one other guy. Bernie had these 2 guys doing all the assembly & setups plus they had taken on alot of work since the ST-3s were selling like hot cakes. if you lookinto BCR production after the introduction of the ST-3 neckthru custom production almost stops. the final 1100 neckthru serials took up almost a 6yr span 84-89. when back in 82/83 they were makin almost 10 neckthrus a day. its was bernie trying to keep up with the jones that made BCR go down hill. OK back to class axe, so class axe gets a bad rap because alot of the left over crap BCR sent them was exactly that crap. it also didnt help that class axe didnt have much guidance since all of the real BCR "builders" had left along time before that, & i believe they took some of the original templates with them as well. even after class axe when bernie bought the company back they were made different since some of the correct templates no longer exist & no one at the company realized they werent building them the same as the old ones. Bernie SR & JR never built a damn thing. also every USA BCR built after class axe was made in mexico. true USA built BCRs have NOT existed since 1988/9.

Re: Anyone know anything about BC Rich Gunslingers

I used to sell these in 88-89.
                        as I remember it:
1 slanted HB was a gunslinger. almost always reverse headstock. Most had maple Boards although there are some rosewood. designed for tracii guns
1 HB 1 SC was an assian. This was basically a gunslinger with a added SC at the neck.
1 HB 2 SC with the 3 mini toggles was a ST-III. Had more stratlike contours. Straight headstock every time.
Im a little fuzzy on the Outlaw but I think it was the swiss cheese model. Basically a assian with bullet holes thru it
"Now remember, things look bad and it looks like you're not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean. 'Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor win. That's just the way it is. ":JOSEY WALES

I agree Class Axe didn't do the gunslinger! I have a good source on that.
Veli is right the were around brfore Class Axe. They started in 1987.

Neal is the real authority here, and even he is a bit fuzzy as to the history between Bernie Rico and Class Axe.
I'm not 100% sure of what was released where, but only that I built them in the year and change I was with Class Axe.

Neal left BCR in 1985, weve had this discussion before & he is unsure of the exact dates.
