Re: Charvel Model series aren\'t a bang for the buc

Thank you. While I can stumble onto model series deals like that here, I will never stumble across an SD Charvel here. But up there you have a better chance of coming across a SD Charvie. I'm starting to think that no one around here ever bought one.

Go to Pawn Shops you can still pick up any charvel model series bolt on for under $300, or buy mine for $250

Every pawn shop I've been to have crappy strat copies and stuff like that.

I guess I should go check them out again. Maybe they have something good..

I've bought all my Model series at pawn shops from $70-$300 and the $300 one was a red model 6

This place is prone to garbage. Well I can't say that 100%, my friend got a Model 6 from a pawn shop a while ago. I would of bought it, but he traded it for a RR3 (hes very stupid)

the best buys out there by far are on USA Peaveys, They made some great guitars, they also made some crap, with a little knowledge you can get guitars that cost 500-700 bucks 10 years ago for under 200

+1 I recently got a hum/single 007 Elite (7-string) and love the thing. It's got Grover tuners, a Tone Pros locking TOM bridge, and came set up great out of the box, I didn't have to adjust a thing. The Duncan Designed pups were a little weak in output for my tastes, but they really didn't sound all that bad. I've since put in a Duncan Custom 7 and DiMarzio Blaze single and couldn't be happier with it!

Used USA Jackson's still can be had for around $800. when I ordered mine in 85 it listed for $2400 because I added EMG's & a floyd.

I still see Model series in pawnshops on occasion, at fairly reasonable prices when they pop up.

The early Kramer Focus guitars are pretty decent, they are basically ESP guitars built to Kramer specs, and have real Floyds on them. I still see them for sale less than what a new Floyd trem costs.

Bang for the Buck

Used Ibanez RGs are a great deal, and 500+ models are very well respected by virtually everyone, yet, paradoxically, dirt cheap (gotta love it). 550s are the most popular (thus sometimes pricier), but many other models can be had for very little cash (e.g., 520, 570, etc.). The 520QS is my favorite, with a mahogany body and quilted sapele top. I just bought one for parts and ended up liking it so much, I am keeping it together.

And while the used guitar market does occasionally "wake up" to the value of some of our favorite guitars, new guitars keep getting better and cheaper all the time. Some of the new Squiers offer great quality, and are dirt cheap. Also, check places like AMS for close-outs on all sorts of interesting stuff. They were selling the Charvel A and A+ models for dirt cheap for the longest time ($450, I think). They also had some really nice ESP LTDs for a long time. Finally, MusicYo occasionally offers some great deals on inexpensive guitars. They had the neck-through Kramer Baretta for $199 a few weeks ago, and they even give you a D-Tuna with it.

Model series Charvels are still out there.Pawn shops are still the best place to find them cheap.I know where a model 1 is for 149.00.I have found model 6s for 200.00 a 93 kelly pro neck thru 200.00.Just bought an 87 model 5 for 250.00 and flipped it for 300.00.
Don't give up looking because if you don't grab them right then some one else will.
