Re: best acoustic guitar/most reputable brand~$500

I have two acoustics, a 6 string 1994 Charvel 625C acoustic/electric (which sounds amazing just played acoustically) and a 12 string Ibanez PF10-12, which also is a lot of guitar for the money.

the Charvel ran about $375 or so new, but they are going for around $200 or so on ebay now if you can find one. if you can, they are worth buying. they sound great, look great, and you can plug em in for an added dimension. 80% of the time I play mine without the amp.

you can get nice Ibanez's new for $300-$500 no problem.

    good luck!

Seagull, Godin and Takamine are all great choices. There are actually a ton of nice acoustics in the $500.00 range.
Try to get something with a cutaway and electronics. Both of those features come in very handy.

Takamine G330S. Shave the bridge and nut down a bit and you have a nice-sounding acoustic with excellent playability. I got one used for about $250 a few years ago.

seagull! best bang for the buck i think. i also think they are one of the better sounding acoustics, & in the under $1000 probably the best.

I'll add another vote for Seagull.
I'd stay away from cheap Taylors. I hate ovations, they don't sound remotely "right" to me.

I would have to say Seagull to me is a great sounding guitar, I was endorsed in the 90's and still have a Simon and Patrick (Their top of the line at the time). My other ones (4) all BROKE, The tops cracked the necks are actually bolted on and got all crazy and on 1 of them the only way I could play it was with a Capo.

I own 2 of the Black Takamine "Springsteen Models" I paid $499.00 off ebay for a 6 string 341c, I paid about $850.00 for My 12 string the 385C, I love them both. Look on Ebay for them, they really are great guitars (Make sure they have the pearl logo and Binding on the headstock)

Sometimes USA Ovations can be had real cheap. I bought a '86 Collectors Edition Ovation dirt cheap at a pawn shop, and it's a total acoustic shred machine, good for the DiMeola stuff. I've been brushing up on my Mediteranian Sundance licks. Just have to watch out for top cracks and the neck angle.

hahaha that sounds like me. after 11 years of playing and i've owned around 30+ guitars and a few bass guitars yet not one acoustic. i just can't do it lol. eventually i think i'll "have" to get one though.

If you don't mind used, Chuckracer is selling an old Ovation. At the price he is asking it's a steal for a real Ovation.

I'm surprised that no one here has mentioned Guild. About 10 years ago I fell in love with one, but it wasn't to be. Still haven't gotten an acoustic, but figured I'd look at Guild when the time came.

Any particular reasons none of you guys mentioned them? Have they changed since Fender bought them? Just too pricey for the original post/subject?

Ovation, tupperware with strings, that's classic! My roommate had an Ovation. It sounded decent (not great) and he was CRAZY about it, but I really hated the whole feel of it. I guess maybe those are love'em or hate'em kinda things.

main reason I didn't mention Guild was price. they are a top of the line acoustic, and priced accordingly. their 12-string is considered the best out there, from what I've heard.

I've heard one person dis the brand since Fender bought them, but that was just based on that guy's distrust of the current Fender corp.
