  • Gibson WRC or U2 designed by Wayne Charvel

Does anyone know anything about either of these instruments? I know they were a design by Wayne Charvel and are Super Strats with H-S-S config. I have found one at a local shop and was wondering a little history about them, worth, years made etc.? The one I found says it is a WRC but from Harmony Central all WRC's seems to be bolt-on neck and this one is a set neck. Does that make it a U2? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had a Gibson U2. It was an awesome guitar with crappy ass pickups.

Yes, the U2 was a setneck. Never even seen one in person.

I loved them. As stated before, the pickups will need swapped out. Pricing should be $175-$350 depending on condition.-Lou

I can't tell if this one still has the original pickups, I have enough pickups laying around to replace them if needed. They have it labeled as a WRC but from what I've gathered it must be a U2. It looks very clean just needs a set up. No dents, dings or major trauma. Thankfully it's not at a GC so I can probably work a deal. Thanks for the info, I hope I can get it.

Gibson WRC is a great guitar for the money. They're right about the pickups, put in some cool or hot rails that fit into a single space and you're good to go!

I own a Gibson Q-80 bass that was designed by Charvel..it has the Jackson type pointy headstock. GREAT bass..best bolt on I've ever owned. Q-80's were 1987-1988 ish..I imagine the WRCs are around the same period. If you look at the headstock the Gibson serial number can easily decoded into what year it was made. YXXXYXXX
The Y's are the year numbers 1987 would be 8XXX7XXX.

This one is an 87 with the Jackson style headstock, not the explorer style, with the large gold Gibson logo.

Whoa, just re-read that. Set neck with the large Gibson logo..is the U2. Worth MORE than the WRCs. If it's in good shape, get it! Post pics!

Did it look anything like this. I'm pretty sure this is a US-1. I owned this for a while. Not a bad guitar. I loved the Steinberger trem...you could actually flick a little lever and it was instantly a hardtail. How cool is that?

My U2 had the Explorer-type head, Schaller Floyd and truly abysmal pickups (OBL?)

Mine too. It was a nice metallic green colour. I should never have gotten rid of it. Very nicely put together, and the explorer headstock just looked so damn cool.

This one has the Jackson style head stock with the large Gibson script logo, about an inch tall, that is raised. Other than that it looks like Crankdaddy's, even that same color.

U2s seem to be climbing in price recently on eBay. The last one I remember seeing went for at least $700, if I recall correctly, and maybe quite a bit more than that.
