• Familar with the new ibanez edge pro vs lo pro?

Well the subject sez it all, im looking to either get an rg7620(jap made 7 string with lo pro edge) but i noticed the newer 1527 with the new edge pro, are selling for about the same price. So how would you rate the newer bridge vs the older one? I play a rr1 with a the schaller floyd. Thank YOU!

Re: Familar with the new ibanez edge pro vs lo pro

Over on the jemsite forum, they've had about a zillion threads on this topic. The general consensus is that the LoPro Edge was better than the current Edge Pro. For one thing, the LoPro had locking pivot studs, which help prevent them from moving around when the trem is used. Also, the Edge Pro is made from a softer alloy, which requires that the saddles and pivot points be separate pieces of hardened steel. Basically, the consenus is that Ibanez cheaped out big time on the Edge Pro and created an inferior product--but not dramatically so, the Edge Pro is still better than the cheaper units that come on Ibanez's Korean-made guitars.

Personally, I think you'd be ok either way. But on eBay, you should be able to get a 7620 a little cheaper than the 1527, and I think it is the way to go, since it has the better trem, as well as real DiMarzio pickups (which the 1527 does not). I had a 7620 awhile ago and thought it was a pretty solid machine.

I have a Jem with an Edge Pro and I've had no problems with it, though I do have the locking stud mod. If I had a choice though, I'd pick one of the older bridges because you can't get an intonation tool for the Edge Pro, afaik.

I do like the 5 piece necks on the 2005 Ibanezes though. I don't know if they're any better than the old ones, but they sure are pretty.

I have had both and I prefer the RG7620. Actually, I currently play an RG7620. The guitar is bullet proof, totally dependable and stays in tune as good as any Floyded guitar I have. I think the material used on the low pro is better quality than the edge pro too.

Apart from the LoPro Edge, I only have experience with the Edge Pro II, which is what Ibanez uses on its Korean guitars. And that one is a raging piece of crap. But supposedly the Edge Pro is a lot better than the Edge Pro II.

I would go with the 7620, it has better pups and I believe the LoPro is better than the EP. If you get the 1527, get the locking stud mod that moro is talking about. Info here - ibanezrules.com. One nice thing about the EP, the profile is LOW. It feels like your playing a fixed bridge.
