Chuck , play away with her and help me break her in , that's if you can put the mutt down for a while. Now that's what I call broken in .
The problem with having too many guitars is that you never seem to break them in right or as you say gel with them . That's why I am going to make a concious effort to thin out my collection this summer . I have too many similar guitars and to be honest it's a sin !! Another idea is to case most of them up ( I have them all hanging ) and store them away .
On a side note , how many of you guys be above the 20th fret regularly . I'm just curious as most of the cool solos that I have heard very rarely go up there
Is it an ego thing --- my fretboard's longer than yours
i agree 100% when you have a decent size collection it is kinda hard to break one in b/c you see the others sitting there and just keep switching off. as of now i have 15 guitars (and growing) so i have to spread the attention a bit or they get angry lol. i do have highly modded strat i favor a bit as of now though. enjoy that one when you get it, i'm sure it will be killer once broken in and set up how you like it! man i wish i bought it. oh well.

Yes. Actually, I prefer the placement of the neck pickup with 24-fret guitars... it puts it closer to the bridge for a brighter tone. I'm one of those freaks that likes brighter sounding neck pups. Though, I can get by just fine on a 22- or even 21-fretter.
I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

[/ QUOTE ]Nah, whatever makes you happy is fine. For me, the guitar is in E (whatever tuning you use my point's valid so read on) and it's aesthetically pleasing to me to have2 octaves per string. I actually do use frets 21-24 pretty often, but then a lot of music I like uses them and then without those frets you can't play (or try to play) that stuff. I like that high E minor arpeggio and you need the 24th fret.
Thanks for the 2 replies . Logical answers that I never thought of .
However , I do think a lot of players just want 24 frets because it is more
well, as I am strictly a "lead" player, I rarely spend any time below the 20th fret. Alexi Laiho is my hero and he plays a 24 fret Rhoads, so I must also have a 24 fret Rhoads. All of the classical (read: legitimate) music I play makes a lot of use of the 23rd and 24th frets, just as Nicolo Paganini intended when he wrote all of those Sonatas for 24 fret electric guitar. I'm actually thinking of having all of those redundant frets below the 20th removed. Or maybe I'll have a guitar built with the nut at the 20th and lop all of that useless extra wood off the end of the neck. It'll be like a piccolo guitar!
I almost bid on this one (Love the finish and I don't have a rosewood board in the house)
but the 1 5/8 nut and lack of sculpted neck joint deterred me.
My GMW has spoiled me
Congrats I think she's a beauty and I love that layout!
Chuck you ake great pics!
Thanks! I have a great camera that props me up!
Panasonic DMC-FZ20.
Comes stock with a killer Leica lens, and that's the whole ball game right there.
My Dad has a Cannon G3 that I prefer for some things (close-ups primarily), and it gives the Panasonic a run, but great equipment sure helps!
I rarely play up there. First of all, it is cramped. Second of all, I think it sounds shitty...all that high pitched wanking. Some guy can obviously make it work, I can't. I usually don't go above the 20th, and that is rare. Also, I think 24 fretters kill the neck p/u tone. I would rather not even have one on a 24 fret guitar.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.
