The disadvantage is that you can't escape a supplementary customs cost on these.

      How much was that?

for Belgium, u have to add 21% VAT + X % administration cost on top of that.. count 30% on top in total.. but since I have a company, I can retract the VAT, hehe

I like the look of the 1984 Baretta reissues...always wondered about the quality.

IMHO, the quality is quite good.. and now I will stop, I begin sounding like a music yo sales guy, let them do the selling

From what I've heard, it kinda depends on what your looking for out of the purchase. For the money, I understand they're pretty good. I've also heard that quality wise, they don't stand up to "real" Kramers (those from the NJ based company in the 80s), but I think most would expect that. I've heard from others that they would switch out the pickups on the "1984" model and the thing would cook!

I gotta admit, I get a serious twinge whenever I look at that fancy quilt-top Les Paul that they've got. Less than $500 too - are they any good?

                [/ QUOTE ]

I had a twinge for those as well. Supposedly it's very similar to the ESP/LTD EC-1000 Eclipse Deluxe (all that fancy trim and same shape) since they are made in the same factory (Samick?) but for a lot less money. Greg Crowe here has a trans red one he snapped up on Ebay. I was going to order a trans black one around last Christmas but didn't act on it. Instead, I got my Edwards to satisfy my LP-related GAS a few months later.

I just noticed on Music Yo's website that if you go to the "1984" Specs and scroll down it says "Hand built in the USA"! It doesn't say that for the Jersey Star! WTF

I agree, i like the striker bodies better, but these bodies you see are like the originals.

I have owned 2 of the Baretta's (24 fret neckthru's) I paid 199$ new for them, and they are WORTH it. Sure the frets and finish arent overly perfect, but after spending the 40-50$ on minor fret work and a set up, it plays just as good if not better then lots of imports costing 2-3x as much.

Heck, change the pups and you can have a darn nice guitar for cheap, and even then, the quad rails arent that bad! Nice playable necks on the baretta's!

It is a shame they stopped selling them, as well as most of the striker line. I would love to get a baretta neck through with rosewood board.

                                Re: MusicYo Kramers

I had a maple board Striker and have 3 of the neckthrough Barettas. The fretwork on all 4 of them was good. All of them needed a good setup when I got them, and 2 of them needed new pots because the ones that came on the guitars were horrible. And while the Quadrails have plenty of output, they just don't cut through the way the Duncans I'm used to do. However, I will say that the Dualrails in the Striker sounded outstanding. I would take those over Duncans any day of the week.
