Nothing wrong with the guitar, but wanted opinions or suggestions on maybe making it better sounding and looking (pickguard, knobs, tuners). The body is basswood, so I'll add a Dimarzio Tone Zone for the bridge position and also will add a Dimarzio Chopper for the middle position. For the neck position I'm seriuosly thinking about adding a Sustaniac system.
shave or steel wool the neck if its finished. im not a big fan of slide switches so ide ditch the middle single & go with a 3 way toggle. Cool Rail in the neck on a tap. oh yeah & ide move the volume knob & just go with a 2 knob setup. stock fenders i cant deal with the volume right there im always hitting it.
You can order them through the store. They have a lot of finishes available (not just the diamondplate example finishes). I had a plain, flat brushed aluminum guard on my strat an it looked sweet! It was red with a maple neck like yours, too.
I like it as is but I like H-H or H-S-H setups. Nice strat tho, maybe a mirror pickguard I have one of those DiMarzios like that bridge, I don't know what it is but it sounds nice.
The guitar came with a Dimarzio Super Distortion, but since the body is basswood, I want to replace it with a Tone Zone. The Tone Zone sounds incredible on basswood bodies. I thought about changing all the hardware to black chrome, but I think it will stay like that for now.
if you really want that guitar to look beautiful, I'd put a white pearloid pickguard on it, gives it a real classyh look...and are those Lace Sensor single coils? I'd leave those in, and go with the Tone Zone like you originally planned...
I would lose the Lace Sensors in the neck and middle...the most toneless pickups ever made (although they work well if you do a lot of rack processing to your signal). Duncan JB Jr.'s or Lil' 59's or Lil' Screamin' Demons would work well here...or Anderson SD1's with an H2+ in the bridge. A pearloid or mirror pickguard would dress it up a bit as well.
I'd order a 1 hum 1 single pickguard from Warmoth in 1 ply black, with the strat switch and one volume knob where the middle tone is now.
Tone Zone (if you insist), and a Duncan Cool Rails in the neck.
Everybody puts those pearloid pickguards on their strats...go a different way!
Black diamond plate pickguard. Black hardware (the chrome hardware always looks fugly, imho), black pick-up covers and cheetah/leopard skin fur (the fake stuff obviously) around the body (like hambucker suggested)
