Re: Any mods you would suggest for this guitar?

It would be great if I could get pictures of the Edna? Now I started the process of locating the parts for doing this upgrade. I hate those Vintage Kluson tuners that my guitar currently has and I'm having a hard time finding a direct replacement for them that would look more modern. I know there are vintage kluson tuners in black chrome, but I just hate the way they look.

+1 for Chuck's idea. Though I am more of a HSH guy, HSS I never liked. HS however on a strat I think gives you all you need. Tone Zone's are nice for basswood and match up very well with a Cool Rail. My personal preference is something really hot for the bridge like a Full Shred, but thats just me

Also +1 for the idea of changing all hardware to black. If you get the black guard (metal or mirror would look especially nice) that guitar would look very badass with all black hardware+guard. I'd keep the blade switch for that Fender look. And actually a 5 way switch isn't a bad idea if you wanted to go with a hotter humbucker than the tonezone. Then you can have inner and outer coils split.

You also might like a warmoth neck. You can get one that feel exactly like that strat but with a real nice birdseye for pretty cheap. Plus you can get the headstock finished in red for a more balanced look. Just some things to think about.

Definitely all black hardware though.

Thanks guys for all the great ideas. What can I do about the tuners? Where can I get a direct replacment for the Vintage Kluson that I have that will look more modern?

Just slap some Gotoh's or Schallers on it. I wouldn't be so worried about direct replacement. You may have to enlarge the holes and drill new holes for the tuners...so what. You're modding the guitar...mod it!

I would Chuck, but I have no skills whatsoever to do something like that.

I understand. Seems I take my skills for granted.
Check Warmoth's site...I think they have them.

They have Vintage Klusons in black chrome, but don't know if the other models they sell could be used on my strat without having to mod it.

Well bro, there's your choices.
If you want a modern style tuner, you need to mod the guitar.
By a drill and some bits...it's very easy!

I'm scared I'll damage the guitar, so I guess Vintage Kluson in black chrome will do. I'm already seeing that if I don't do some trading for the parts I want, this project is going to be expensive.

Yeah, building parts guitars or changing a lot of parts gets real spendy real quick.
Chrome looks cool too, ya know!

they need to make universal pre-drilled tuner holes on some bolt on necks...a lot of them end up looking like swiss-cheese anyway

Well, I went to the Warmoth site to get an idea on how much these mods (changing everything to black hardware plus the new pickups) and it came up to over $400 bucks. I guess that now I'm back to just swapping the pickups and adding a white or white perloid pickguard with maybe changing the knobs to chrome ones.

well the cool thing about strats with pickguards is for 15-20 bucks you can get a whole different look and just change back and forth when you get tired of it.

Yes. I think I'll get a white perloid pickguard and three chrome knobs. For $30 bucks I'll give the guitar a different look for the moment. I'll sell the Dimarzio Super Distortion and the Lace Sensors and will get a used Tone Zone (or Custom 5) and a Fast Track (or Duncan Cool Rail).

Even cooler is that along with being able to change the look, you also cn completely change the performance of the axe. I have a Tom Andersone Hollow Classic that came standard with three single coils, and they sound great for when I do a funk or blues gig. I ordered a second pickguard assembly with a HSH configuration that turns it into an awesome rock and metal guitar. Just one solder joint to the jack and you have a new guitar. Obviously you need the right rout to accomodate a HB in the neck, or you could break out the old chisel
