Re: anyone like maple BCRs

Is that a one piece Birdseye body, well wings rather? Pretty nice figure there too. Even so, VERY nice.

I had a natural maple finish Gunslinger at one point, maple body, birdseye maple bolt neck (pretty lame figuring), natural flame maple finish. It was nice but it only had one humbucker (slant) and a floyd, so its not really my thing. The neck was flatter than the wider rounder necks on the mockingbird. I dunno if it was a custom but I believe it was pretty old (I'd guess late 80's). I got it for cheap cause the seller listed it as "Rich Gunslinger" so I think alot of people missed it. Got it for like 650 or something. Sold it for slightly more on the turnaround. Its kind sad if it is a custom shop but honestly at the time BC Rich (custom or otherwise) were very much a buyers market. Seems they are doing better now, based on what I see on ebay.

      I really didn't like the non-diamond inlays

Very cool guitars and becoming more and more collectable (if that's your thing). I had a late 70's Mockingbird that looked identical to the one pictured here with the 2 creme SD's. It was a cool guitar with a very playable neck. I also had a 1984 USA Stealth, curly maple with a trasparent red finish. This guitar had a wide, flat neck, somewhat like an ESP Lynch model. Not near as fast as my earlier Mockingbird. The Stealth was stolen in State College, PA back in '88 on Halloween . If anyone has ever seen this guitar (Bernie Rico said at the time that it was the only one made in trans red with a black Kahler, rw board with no markings, pearl R on reverse headstock) let me know as I'd love a chance to buy it back. I'll post pictures of both these guitars in the future.

            Did someone say Stealth?

My '84. Finally got her setup the way I like last weekend. Very fast neck. It rocks

awesome guitar that. Wasn't that the guitar body that Chuck from Death/Control Denied came up with? If its not that, it looks alot like that. I was always partial to the Ironbird

Speaking of which I was poking around and I found out that Bernie Jr started his own company and I have the say the guitars look outstanding. All USA guitars handmade but the designs look absolutely wicked. Remind me of the early-mid 90's BC Rich Handmade's.

No Rick Derringer came up with the design. Chuck wouldn't draw something like that!

That is like saying Mustaine came up with KV shame on you.

Hrm I always remember him playing a green stealth (least I think it was green, it was a long time ago and my memory sucks. At first I thought the body style was called the Bolt ), but then I coulda sworn he came up with a design for BC Rich. It wasn't that hideous Ignitor was it? Thats one incredibly ugly guitar body.

What you mean Mustaine didn't come up with the King V?!

He played several BC Richs over the years, mostly Stealth. He played an Ignitor, too, but honestly I don't know who designed that shape. Now you really made me curious, I will ask that around, but I doubt it was Chuck because Chuck has many hardcore fans and someone already would have dug that fact out. To be honest I love Ironbirds, but for some reason I never liked the Stealth. Despite of being a fan of Death and Chuck.

Nice guitar...it brings back some fond memories!!! The only major differences from mine, besides the finish, are mine had no neck markers and my switches were perfectly hoizontal, parallel with the knobs. Does yours still have the original Rick Derringer Dimarzio's in it? They were a great sounding pickup that absolutely screamed when the onboard preamp was engaged. You can still get them as a custom order.
I hope I can find another one (or my old one) someday.

Here's one I prepared earlier. Actually, it's at Neal Moser's being set-up. Can't wait to receive it. You got it; '84, Rick Derringer pickups and no inlays I have seen several control lay-outs (like you describe) but most came like this...

He mainly used black Stealths. But he did have a green Stealth Deluxe as shown in this photo.

BTW, I believe they have ceased making the Derringer pick-ups in their original form (no signature on the back).

Thats it! Very nice stealth that. A few sites say he played an Ignitor too but I've never seen any pictures or footage of him playing one. The one time I saw them live long ago he was playing that green stealth, I'm sure he played the black one too but the green one stuck out in my mind. Personally I love the body design. Even more than the Jackson Star, for some reason the Stealth looks sleeker and because I'm not a big guy, the body seems more suited to me, stars always seemed a bit bulky to me. I am fascinated by the configuration on those 84 stealth's. So I take it the mini's are for active electronics? What is the wiring on those? It seems pretty cool to me because I was always intimidated by the massive amount of hardware on the full active bich, this seems much more manageable

The Stealth body is much more sleek and comfortable than a star. The biggest drawback to mine was poor balance...it was neck heavy and you couldn't take your hands off of it live or the body would tilt forward and the neck would take a plunge. Also, if playing with the neck pickup, it was easy to accidently flip the toggle back to the bridge. The mini togles were: preamp, coil tap x 2, and a phase switch. Pretty easy to manage.
