This is my first BC Rich. Was curious to check out one of their strat styles. Could somebody tell me something about it http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...34543722&rd=1. No derogatory remarks about the Kahler please cause I bought the guitar because it had one. Anyways great neck.

Re: BCR Help Please
Nice score. All BCRs should be neck-through
Make sure you post pics when you get it. The only solution to GAS is DEATH...

Re: BCR Help Please
No questions in particular. Just wondering how old and also wanted to know if the handcrafted in USA logo on the neck heel and no made in USA on the headstock is legit. I assume it is but I once passed on a super cool Mockingbird neckthru because of this but I took a chance on this one.The retro looks of this model with the sort of Flintstones body contours is really starting to appeal to me. From the moment I strung the guitar up it was amazing how well it intonated. I would like to know more about them. What is the difference in quality of pre Class Axe BCR's and post Class Axe. What are the better strat style models to look out for. I appreciate the advice.

Re: BCR Help Please
I thoughtof one more question. The middle knob controls a pream. It is voiced so loud and force full that it is kind of a pain to use. It also makes the passive sound sound a little chorused and mild. I opened the control cavity and the preamp chip (a flat white plastic circuit board) and the battery were both wrapped in tape. Would this be original. I have had other brand guitars that were ordered with a preamp and came with a wrap the battery with electrical tape arrangement so I guess this could be possible. Is there a way to tame the preamp if it is original. I don't see a trim pot inside anywheres.

Re: BCR Help Please
Ok, don't flame me for this. But I am almost positive that the ST-3 design was from either Wayne or Grover. I don't know the specifics but I am dead positive I heard that several times on this board back when it was on the Jackson site. Maybe thats why it appeals to you, because of the Jackson link
That stamp logo on the headstock I've seen on alot of USA BCR's I dunno if its legit though, I am a big fan of BCR's but far from an expert. I think my Gunslinger actually had that stamp. In fact it looked alot like this guitar, it even had a Kahler
The preamp circuits in those are killers from what Sanc says on the other thread, so that sounds consistent with what he has on his stealth. As for taming the sound and muting it somehow? I'll leave that one to the electrical experts. Dunno if any of this is helpful to you but either way that is a really nice guitar and I think you made a good choice (except for the Kahler! ).

Re: BCR Help Please
Post-Class Axe there is lack of quality control and a lot of inconsistency.
Nice Strat Models are Gunslingers and neck-thru STIIIs in my opinion. You already have a STIII, so you better start looking for a nice 'slinger!
There is not much way to tame the pre-amp, I find it really useless in hi-gain applications. It might be useful when you are playing like a bluesy rhythm and want to kick in with the lead. Other than that, it is meh. Oh yeah, taping should be factory.
Enjoy!

Re: BCR Help Please
Looks to me like you stole that guitar. This looks to be a legitimate USA ST3. The person who mentioned Wayne is also correct...he consulted BC Rich when they added this body style to their line-up, I believe in late 85. These guitars had a street price of about $850 back then. Nice snag!!!

Re: BCR Help Please
I wasn't crazy! Heh. Yea, the Gunslinger I got cost me about 450. And it was a steal because the guy had listed it badly. But eventually I got so annoyed with the Kahler that I decided I may as well sell it to someone like yoga who actually appreciates the damn things Like this one, mine didn't have usa on the headstock next to the name but rather stamped. It was of course a bolt on and had only one humbucker, can't remember if it was a slant mount and if it had a preamp. I don't think so but it was awhile ago. I only kept it for a year, turned around and got 600 for it. I don't know if it was truly a USA or not, either way it was a nice guitar, it just didn't work for me.

Re: BCR Help Please
Comparing Floyds to Kahlers is like apples to Oranges. Personally I like both for different things. I think a Kahler though can be much more musical and sophisticated in certain applications. Its just a much more subtle trem. Kinda like a Bigsby on steroids.

I have to agree with the subtle comment. I cut my teeth on Kahlers until I became a Floyd convert in '88 due to the insanity I could produce with one
The Kahler allows you to get some cool vintage, lyrical trem sounds fairly easy. A Floyd is about as subtle as a sucker punch.

Re: BCR Help Please
Just opened up my '84 Stealth and found it taped up like you say. Looks good. As for taming the pre-amp. Just use the boost knob. Sounds great into my crappy solid-states The only solution to GAS is DEATH...

Re: BCR Help Please
Chris your ALL good. the preamp should be connected to the second volume. thats the only way to control it. the gold sticker is period correct for 85-87. the preamp is much more usable when the guitar has a varitone since the varitone cut highs & also output. most of those were killer players with much thinner necks than the OLD bcrichs. its a real handmade tho probably a BCR south made blank. i love the OLD ST's that still had the old eagle route, much better than the later ones. Chris what do u think of the frets & neck, the frets are probably alot smaller than your C/Js. & yes the tape is correct, BTW if you take the battery out everything will work perfectly except the preamp boost. even in guitars with the varitone i always take the batteries out of mine.

Re: BCR Help Please
Jamie, Its amazing how quickly my hand fell in love with the neck. I changed strings, tuned up finger a chord and voila, I was off. What I especially like about the neck is how it handles in open position. From the third fret on down i can make just about any guitar work but the shape of the neck and width of the nut is perfect for me.The frets are fine by me. They need a polish which I'll get to over the weekend. Its a shame about the preamp. The 2 Charvies that I have that came with preamps are really usable and you can dial them in just right. This one seems to give you a 100 db boost and really colors the sound. I could see how the varitone would help out.I noticed that it worked with the batteries out. Gosh if the preamp only had a trim pot.
