  • Other Superstrats

I'm a pretty big fan of the Model series Charvels. But I've also thought about getting a newer guitar, something with at least one humbucker and a Floyd. What else is there (I'll thank you not to mention Ibanez or LTD) at a reasonable price?

I see Godin makes something similar, as does G&L in the Tribute series.

Schecter C-1's are nice and aren't made out of agathis or basswood like BC Rich/ESP/Ibanez. Not all the C-1's are of course, but for 400+ almost all their guitars are of good quality for imports.

Godin guitars are great. I am not familiar with G&L but I hear they feel similar to Charvels. Carvin is worth looking at too.

Not all ibanez's are basswood anymore, actually alot of there line now is mahogoany, check out the S's and the SZ's. But if you want a killer guitar, on ebay there is a late 80's ESP mirage custom neck thru, right now it is at $510 and i just got one, and let me tell you the guitar is killer. All maple and built just as solid as a jackson soloist!

You can build a Warmoth for a good price if you shop around for the parts. I play my warmoth mutt all the time, one of my favs. Plus you get a lot of options that way.

Hammer, I've thought about doing exactly that. A lot of people say parts guitars don't hold their value, but that doesn't matter: I buy guitars to play them, not to sell them.

Then Warmoth really is the best route I think. If you watch th e showcase carefully you can have some smokin' deals!

              Re: Other Superstrats

My favorite of the `90s super-Strats was the Hamer Californian. The new imports are very unimpressive, but the USAs from a few years back were as good as (or better than) similar Jacksons. Not unlike early Jacksons, each Cali was unique in some way, whether it be the inlay or binding or pickups. I have two USAs, a Cali Deluxe and a Cali Elite, and my brother has a USA Diablo. The Californians had 27 frets, even on the earlier imports, although the current versions do not.

One of my main live guitars is a parts mutt. If you're a player and don't care about the resale value, this is clearly the way to go IMO.

Dosen't Godin do a Freeway with a Floyd now?
                  it's a s/s/h config though.

                      Re: Other Superstrats

Well, another option and/or alternative to Warmoth as a parts guitar is Chandler, they make excellent parts, Hosono is another good parts company too...

also: higher-end Hamer Start-types are damn nice guitars too, like the Californian...

                          Re: Other Superstrats

I just switched over to Ibanez, and I cannot say anything bad about them. Of course, I'd never buy any of their lower models, since I think they're crap. I own a Prestige 3120 (made with a mahogoany, and a flamed maple top). Excellent guitar!!

2nd Hamer is a green Import Diablo. good guitar, but not as good as the USA models. Jack.

                              Re: Other Superstrats

I have a G&L Legacy HB. It may be out of your price range (around $1000 roughly), but it's the best strat style guitar I've ever played. It's now as much my favorite as the RR1. The neck profile is a little fatter, the G&L pickups sounds great, and there's a JB in the bridge (coil tapped), so I can get all sorts of great tones. The Tribute series is almost the same (uses the same pickups as the USA models) and they are reasonable priced.
