• New Carvin try-out

    Got it off Ron (rhms8)

IT plays great, it looks great, the hardware is great, and the sound is EXCELLENT! I dont care what others say about the Carvin pups, I think they are great. I dont even know what models are in this particular (the guy I bought it from didnt know much of the specs) and didnt have the orig invoice or anything. But compared to the Jackson SL2H I recently sold, it sounds much better under clean sounds (Ive owned roughly 20 guitars, and honestly I owned a DC127 for one week 3 years ago, and alongside a Peavey Wolfgang, they were the best sounding, and the wolf didnt do cleans overly well). The phase and Coil tap offer great versatility.

This is a trial though, I dont know if Im going to keep it. The fit and finish and overall guitar is awesome, but I DONT know if I'll adjust to the 25" scale or not. I'm already having issues playing in the upper frets. The soloing techniques and fingerings I have always used, are now missing frets and my fingers dont know where they are. Not sure if im being overly anal, but I owe it to Carvin to give the guitar a fair trial. I always complained how they offered everythign I want, except that 25.5" scale.

I'll likely lose a lot of money on this try-out if I dont keep it (70$ on import fee's ASIDE from the $ I had to pony up), but if I do, it was money well spent, as this guitar looks like it will last a LONG time!

Cool. Looks like the C22N and C22T pups with one set of adjustable poles and the other fixed. Or the bridge could possibly be the new C22B. Pull them out and they should be marked on the bottom in black marker.

Nice gutiar bro. Really nice. Carvin makes nice stuff! I have a bunch of it myself. You are being a bit anal regarding the scale. Trust me bro, there isn't much difference between 25 and 25.5. Its mostly in your head. There is a noticable difference between a baritone 27 scale and a Gibson 24.75 but the difference between a 24 fret 25 scale and a 24 fret 25.5 scale is extremely minor.

im really trying, because their is NO denying that bang for the buck, they are LIKELY the best value in guitars.

I already have a DC127M specc'd out if I like this one. All white with gold hardware, and SS jumbo frets. T.O.M bridge.

            Lets hope she sticks!!!

Beautiful guitar, man, and as for the scale difference, consider this: You are talking about 1/2" spread out over 24 frets. That really is miniscule and I would indeed tend to agree that your issue is psychosomatic. If you have huge hands like a 7' tall basketball player, maybe it would matter. I have smaller hands myself and like a 24.75" scale, but I have no trouble with a 25.5" scale either. A bit harder for 5 and 7 fret stretches up high but I adjust. There are too many nice guitars in all different scales for me to eliminate an
              entire scale length.

Not really. That 1/2 inch is for the length of the string, so the bit covered by the 24 frets would only be 3/16ths. So, it's even less. Anyway....

you can spew out numbers all day long, but we all know you can feel the difference.

At the same time, there is something i often succomb to known as "anal retentiveness"

Are all Carvins made in the US? I have always been intereste in them, but most do not say USA on them. I go by if it doesnt say it is it probably isnt.
