hey, noodles, i'm definitely on your side with the "Body is a Wonderland". come to think of it, that "Come to bed" song, i really don't like either, but he gets Buddy Guy to play with him on it, so go figure.

No question the guy has some chops. He's still lacking something though when you see him *really* play - he'll get there though - he has the abilities and the desire.

He was on some special with Buddy Guy a while back (maybe it was Austin City Limits). Buddy is definitely not as techincally proficient as John Mayer but John got his ass handed to him by Buddy in terms of note selection, taste, articulation, tone, and balls. On the flipside, John was totally respectful and was fully aware he was getting a televised guitar lesson.

John gets two thumbs up as a guitar player from me - I don't have any of his albums and wouldn't want to see him play his pop tunes but I'd go watch him play in a forum like that with Buddy Guy or in some blues club any day.

So if Fender can capitalize on this, why not? It's not like Fender is ignoring other great players - their signature line has been very diverse and comprehensive over the years IMO.

man i saw him with herbie hancock and was really dissapointed. didnt do anything impressive whatsoever; there were many many others i would rather have seen on that stage.

I hate his pop tunes, but I know he can play. He really holds back, he is a rocker at heart.

It is a good marketing move...it will bring the sensitive types to Stratland. I can't get this vision out of my head of the scene from Animal House where Belushi rips the guitar out of the guy's hands and smashes it into the wall. Maybe the Mayer Strat will inspire the same act of retribution as some weenie strums and sings Wonderland......

I think him getting a signature is a good thing, he is very loyal strat player and that is what getting a signature series is about. He also does have good chops when he chooses and the guy is fucking funny as hell. Some of you might have not caught it but he had a few episodes on MTV of his own show and had me cracking up, it is a shame they didnt continue the show.

As to your body is a wonderland, i love watching that video with the volume all the way down (LOL) something about that girl i like.
