Re: John Mayer Signature Strat??

JLH was in Smash Mouth's "Can't Get Enough Of You Baby":

Plus she has a few videos of her own. She's not a bad singer, but she's not that great either.

At this point it wouldn't surprise me if the monkey from the Banana Splits had a signature strat from Fender....f*ck it'd be easier to list who doesn't have one!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Man, the Bannana Splits were tight! Hey, the monkey didn't show off any flashy chops, but he kept it in the pocket. Besides, he was a fookin monkey!

Get him a signature model!

I saw him on that Clapton special a few months ago and the boy can play.
He may have some cheezy pop tunes, but he's more than capable of layin' it down when he wants to.

He may be a hell of a player and lover of Strats, but if I ever have to here "Your Body is a Wonderland" ever again, I'll shove his new signature model Strat up his ass. Sideways. God, he writes some boring music.

[/ QUOTE ]

Come on, man. How many guys do you think have gotten laid just because of that song? Whatever you think of it, he gets mad props from me for that alone.

And, yes, I hear the guy can actually play. Bonus points for that.

I saw him on Letterman jamming with the house band. He can definitely pull off the generic blues rock thing very well.

Johns chops are cool. He can play, but chooses to do what he wants to do (pop). More power to him.

No, NOT more power to him. He has chops and he CHOOSES to release horrible, boring crap? I hope there is a spot for him in the ninth ring of hell, right between Train and Toad the Wet Sproket.

The dude figured out how to make an outstanding living playing his guitar. On top of that, he gets to jam with Buddy Guy. My hat's off to the guy. That's way more than most of us can say. And even his pop tunes have some cool guitar work that most here couldn't pull off.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

You may be right but Fender offered him a signature guitar not because he is (or he is known) a good guitarist but he is a famous pop singer. But this is a marketing strategy, the aim is not to honor great guitarists, its to make profits so its normal. Tom DeLong had a signature model Strat. If he wasn't selling records, do you think he would have had a signature model? It's no different, kids run through the halls of their high school, screaming at the top of their lungs, so John gets a signature model.

In the world of American Idol, do you honestly think talent has much to do with someone getting a signature model?

well, all i can say is that the guy has the ability to play, and why the fuck do i care if the guy has a sig series? why should anyone, really? don't we have important things to concern ourselves with?

i understand the TDL point, and yeah, people in successful bands get endorsements. it's always been that way. you don't have to be an accomplished musician. but really, until you (not you personally) have a sig model, stfu. i'm sure that if a guitar company approached any of you here and offered a sig model, you'd jump at it, even if you could only play three notes. do you deserve it? no, but who the fuck cares?

overall, i guess i'm reacting to the retarded general shit-talking that runs rampant. not only here, but in general.
