I own a Schecter S1 Scorpion. Very nice guitar, plays well and after I replaced the bridge duncan-designed-pu with a X2N it sounds killer.

I was thinking about getting one and Tuning it to Drop D, but a whole octave down from Drop D on guitar.

Well, once I find out what the specs are, I'll probably spring for one. I've got this XT Live, so I'll post a few clips of it.

Just checked Jackson's site... it's still there under the MG series; though, it doesn't give the specs. I sent you the specs from the '02 and '03 catalog, Irfaan.

Yah, thanks man. Think I'm gonna go with this one. Gettin a quote from our dealers as we speak. Gonna see how the $ flow goes, I'm picking up a cabinet and power amp this week, so might have to wait 2-3 weeks

Cool. We'll need pics and a full review if you get it! The description sounds accurate. Though, my catalog says it's got the TurboCharger instead of the AfterBurner. Either way, they're pretty much about the same system. Maybe they changed them after Fender took over. Yah, that little difference with the EMG hardware made me question the accuracy of those specs. Ah well, soon as I hear back from these dudes I'll know if I can pull this or not, and of course, many pics will follow. Thanks Joe!

That's pretty fuckin' low, I don't think it would work.

Give it a shot though, give us some feedback!

I've actually downtuned a 7 string and didn't like it one bit. The whole reason I play in B is because it's a totally different vibe than standard, or anything in between for me. I play a lot of melody instead of chord chugging, and it's totally mellow and "beautiful" sounding. Lower than B just gets muddy and dark (to my ears), but it also depends on your setup. I played that through a Triaxis and a full Warhead cab stack and it still didn't sound all that great. To each his own, but yah I'll downtune that thing and see how good I can get it to sound. Should be interestin to see what I can do with it with all the EQ options on the XT Live

                                Re: Baritone Guitars?

I've got a DK-27, and I like it a lot. Longer scale length guitars sound different--harmonically, they're aren't quite what you'd expect. It doesn't sing quite the same way on lead work, but makes up for it by being a load tighter when you start chunking away on it.

Mine is an older model with the EMG-Hz pickups, which don't explode quite as nicely as a Duncan Designed when you throw them at the wall. I put in a JB/Jazz set, and it was like someone cleared up the guitar's sinuses. Tons of throat when your chunking away, and the neck position single note lines are smooth and well defined.

As for the Afterburner, two words: loud and noisy. This thing will distort the hell out of any clean channel. Tons of ugly clipping. On the dirty channel, it makes such massive amounts of gain that every note gets that edgy attack, undefined fuzzy finish that comes when you run two distortion boxes together. It is a really neat toy, but it has never provided me with that much use.
