• Brad Gillis = What a predicament!

Hey Fellers...

I'm trying to get the members of Nightranger to sign my super rare (less than 50 made in Japan only in 1985) Brad Gillis model Fernandes guitar. I wrote to all of them yesterday to see if we could arrange a meeting out in PA next Thursday when they open for REO Speedwagon.

Well, late last night Brad Gillis wrote me back and said that he's interested in buying my B.G. strat as a backup to play live. He'd consider a trade as well.

WTF! I can't sell the guitar to him! I can't replace the guitar because it's so 'friggin rare and he knows it. The only thing that I'd trade for it is the one that he currently uses that he's toured with since the Ozzy days and I know he wouldn't part with that one, but you never know. But now I learned that a chunk of the fretboard came of his #1 a few weeks ago and he's got a Hamer on loan from a friend.

Here's a picture of the guitar:

Ask him about other stuff he might trade for it, who knows.
The guy must own a shit load of stuff, some might peek your interest.

Yeah, I just emailed him back and asked what he has in his arsenal to trade. Who knows? Maybe he'll dump old #1 on me (I wish)! It's funny. Whenever someone makes him a guitar, they say "It's going to be his main axe on tour." But, Brad always reverts back to old Bessy it seems. Ed Roman with his Pearlcaster comes to mind. And then there's this from Vintage Guitar Magazine:

"As the band went through changes – and more or less into hiatus – you released your first solo album, Gilrock Ranch, where all but two of the songs were instrumentals. There’s a “pointy” Hamer on the front cover.

That was used for a different look, because all of my pictures in the past only showed my ’62 Strat. I should’ve used my main Strat again, as it’s always been my favorite guitar. After attending the January NAMM show, I discovered Warrior Guitars. They have great craftsmanship, with exotic woods and fat tone. Soon, you should see me playing a Warrior guitar live – after they finish my custom B.G. model"

Hmmmmm

Just remember, you have the upper hand as he wants what you have, and you want to keep it, so if you do decide to let him have it, make it worth your while! Oh, and take a bouncer along with you if you do take it to get it signed

Re: Brad Gillis = What a predicament!

You should sell it to him. Ask him how much he is offering. I am sure he has a dollar amount in mind. It could be a profitable answer. Seeing Brad playing a guitar that I sold him would be a very cool thing and a great story.
He also might have a killer collection of gear. Most pro's do. Especially a famous guitarist who never had a major solid guitar endorsement. Those guys usually have tons of high end guitars that were given to them in hopes of a deal to be signed.

Re: Brad Gillis = What a predicament!

I see no point in selling him the guitar, unless you really want to part with it.
It's not about the cash value, and seeing him playing a guitar that you sold him means squat in the long run. It only means you no longer have it.

Get it auto'd and maybe let him use it for the show if he wants, but bring it home with you.

I know Chuck. I'm thinking about it and you're right in the long run. He still hasn't read my reply, so i think I'll take my cards off the table. Thanks Bro

I would just say you arent interested in selling it but he could "borrow the guitar" but make sure you have documentation to get it back

I like the idea of letting him use it for the show in exchange for getting to roll with the band that night and some good pictures of him playing it.

That is a really cool guitar. I like the early floyd.

Yeah? Borrow it? Is that a good idea? I'm getting it setup on Saturday. I'll ask him how he wants it set up. Maybe he'll go for it...
