Charvel got it's start by stealing ideas and designs from Fender. Some of the most sought after Jacksons are designs stolen from Gibson. Do these bother you too?

Body shapes like the explorer strat head those get stolen all the time thats fine. Two of my friends that ordered KL explorers spent alot of time designing inlays for their custom shop KLs and then someone stole the pics sent them to Shamray and said I want a KL explorer with the same inlays and finish. By the way the finish was a unique design with the wood and paint combination that was copied as well. Thats what I have a problem with.

Then don't blame Shamray, blame the customer. How is Shamray to know. They want to please their customer who is paying alot of money to get the guitar he wants. I'm trying to see your side but..sorry I just can't.

Thats like saying Jackson didnt know Gibson made an explorer shaped guitar its the customers fault for ordering it. Since Shamray used actuall pics of the guitar in their shop they could see it wasnt some drawing the customer supplied it was someone else guitar and design. I guess you really would not understand unless you spent 5grand on a guitar that you designed and then someone copied your specs in a cheaper Russian made guitar.

Shamray builds copies of Gibson and pretty much anything. They will make what the customer wants. Thats how business works.

No its not a Gibson knock off because its a V shaped guitar with a reverse banana headstock so its a BC rich/Gibson/jackson knock off. Anyways its not the body shape its the inlay design that was stolen is my point.

Yes I do understand, because the custom I am working on now. If someone made an ESP LTD model of the same guitar do you think I would care? No. Its not the same thing. It may look like my custom on the surface but its not.

And inlay design? Jeez man people steal McNaught inlay designs all the time for custom shops. And believe me the guy who spends 12 grand on a McNaught custom has alot more reason to get upset. I just think your anger is misdirected here. These guys at Shamray will build what you ask, period. Thats great customer service. It may rub some companies the wrong way, but if your upset that another company did the same guitar for cheaper then why didn't you use that company in the first place? Because for some reason Ken Lawrence appealed to you. So whats your point. Its not the same guitar. Sorry man, I'm just not getting your arguments here. Once you have a custom built for you then its yours, nothing can take that from you. So what if someone else liked it so much they wanted to copy it. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Let me guess Shamray is building your custom shop guitar.

I think its funny the way Shamray cant even get the headstock right on a KL explorer but you pay for what you get.

I just dont care for Shamray guitars or their business ethics its my opinion and thats that. I feel they did some people I know dirty and I will put my 2 cents in regardless of if someone is sending them two grand to build them a custom.

I'm with AK47, they just copy others. It seems stealing is OK around here until its done by ESP, then there is hell to pay..........

Uh..as Tim pointed out Jackson and Charvel are not without their own thefts. Its what the guitar industry is built on, if you don't like it you pretty much have to build one yourself, and then ask yourself..am I stealing someone else's design? Cause chances are you are even if you don't know it.

I hate ESP because their guitars play and are made like crap (in my experience), I could care less if a eclipse looks like a les paul or whatever.

And don't you mean the guitarists ordering Shamray customs are copying others..they are the ones ordering other companies designs.

As always for me it boils down to if the guitar plays well or not. I haven't played a Shamray so I am not ready to say they suck or don't. I do however wish to judge them on the actual instrument, not based on the people ordering the customs.

I don't condone stealing at all. But if you're dumb enough to post your original designs, which you want to protect so badly, on the internet, then there is NO case.
