• GMP - Anyone else not "get it"?

Ok, I had a GMP Pawn Shop for about a week and just didn't "get it". By that I mean I didn't find anything "special" about them over, say, my Gibson Les Paul Standard or JacksonStars NASL, regardless of jokes about a "Tone Capacitor" or "Mojo module"
It was a very well-made guitar, and very nice to look at, but I wasn't starstruck by it. It was ok, but certainly not "buy every last one I can"

Anyone else try/own a GMP and not "get it"?

I have owned 3 GMPs. 2 Pawnshops and a V. All 3 were extremely well made, but I couldn't get on with the neck profiles. Way too fat and wide for my tastes. The V that I had was extremely neck heavy too. I did not like that one at all.

The neck profile on the one I had wasn't fat at all. It wasn't thin like a Jackson JTX but wasn't as thick as a DK2. It was very similar to my NASL's neck as far as thickness and width and backshape, but it just felt "blah" as a whole.

The neck profile on my GMP is not fat at all. It's not overly thin either. It just doesn't fit my hand for some reason. I would not say that I don't "get it" or that the guitar is "blah" though. I definitely get why folks like these guitars - they sound great, look great, top notch workmanship, etc.

I've only played one (a V) but it felt really nice. The main thing that put me off was the GMP headstock design- it just doesn't look good to these eyes!

I understand the not getting thing. I have that with Gibsons. I love GMPs, they just have "it" too me. Right now my GMPs and PRS are my top dogs, never thought my Wolfgangs would collect dust.

GMP made 3 different neck profiles. I don't like their fat profile, but their std and shred neck are two of my favs.

That is thte great thing about guitars, there are some damn many kinds out there that your bound to find one you love, maybe even the Halford Warrior............

I think it's a matter of what model you have and when it was built. It's like any other guitar: An '86 Rhoads profile isn't like a '95 Soloist, etc. I've had 2 Roxies that were about 300 apart serial number-wise, and they were totally different guitars. Could just be that the model and/or serial number/time frame of the guitar wasn't right for you. I loved my one Roxie (that YetAnotherOne has now) but didn't care for the other one at all. Great guitars. I "get it".

The Pawn Shops, especially, appeal to me. They take the best features of a LP, while making the ones that I don't care for better. i.e., 25.5 scale necks, Duncan PUs, quality locking tuners, etc. And the craftsmanship is excellent.

I most definitely "Get It", too. I sold my Pawnshops because at the time I needed floyded strat-style guitars, and I couldn't get on with the old-style block heel on the Deluxe.
Someday I will have another, though. Guarantee it.

Re: GMP - Anyone else not \"get it\"?

The most likely reason that I did not get on with the neck profiles is due to the fact that I am most comfortable with necks that are 1 5/8" at the nut. And I only made that discovery in the last coupla days.

The Toru blue GMW that I have is 1 3/4". I played it at church last Sunday and was accidently muting strings that I didn't want to. I couldn't figure out why.

Then I got a GMW from Markus yesterday that has a 1 5/8" neck. The difference between those two is night and day (for me, at least).

It finally dawned on me why I liked the Wolfies and EBMM Morse that I had so much: They were 1 5/8" necks. Duh!

I too prefer 1 5/8" necks, though I have no problem with 1 11/16". I cannot get on with 1 3/4" at all.

I have never had the pleasure of playing one so I guess I don't get it either.
