• classical guitar??

I'm starting to move towards a classical guitar style as my hands just hurt too much to play much "rock" anymore.
I've got an old Takamine G126 that has good sound but a WIDE neck. I've also got a VERY old Washburn "New Model" that was given to my Dad and it sounds fantastic. It also has a fairly thin neck that I tend to like better. I'm afraid to move it due to it's age so I'm looking for something else. Is there anything in a reasonable price range that will sound halfway good and have a thiner neck? I'm looking in the sub $1K range so I know I'm not getting a hand made spanish guitar

I had an Epi Chet Atkins CE which I tended to like.. and a Yamaha, also very good price/qualitywise..

donovan,
That is a good question and one I was going to ask. I was looking for an Ovation Viper classical, the same that Malmsteen has been playing. But they are scarce and may have to be custom ordered and I don't think they are below $1K. I was thinking of a Variax (Line 6) for it's multi-applications. You never know when you have to throw in a Sitar I'm still looking, but a Epi Chet Atkins, as mentioned above, may be the ticket.

La Patrie. Necks are still fairly wide, because that's just the way classical necks are, but they're smaller than many, and aren't terribly thick.

I have my Ovation 1624, with an 1 7/8 nut, that is very easy to transition between my electrics:

Paid around $500 or so on the Bay a few years ago, pristine condition.

I have two Ovation steel stringers and I loveto play them. However I'm afraid to go with a classical with a plastic back. How does the sound relate to other classical guitars?
I'm thinking if I get a accustic/electric it won't matter as much but I'd like to have a nice natural tone as well.

Those La Petrie's are darn hard to find! Need to go to Canada, Eh!

It's certainly not as warm as a true classical, but for me it's easier to play when you also play a lot of electric. The neck is very fast (for a classical) and easy to play. I just have it around to dabble with- if I were playing out somewhere I would get used to a real classical neck and use that.
