Re: Edwards Explorer

Keep an eye on the prices from week to week. I made a previous post talking about the most reputable Japanese Ebay exporters here:

Otherwise, you can find some info on http://www.espguitars.net, along with the other ESP umbrella brandnames.

anyone wanna say what Edwards' guitar prices are like, specifically this Explorer model?

[/ QUOTE ]
They range between 500-750(except some other artist replica/signature etc. ones) dollars plus 125 dollars shipping from Japan. Pretty reasonable for what they are. I believe they are actually made in Japan, but I can't be too sure, they might be Korean made. Like I care!

Definitely. Who friggin' cares where they're made, as long as it kicks stupdendous quantities of bum. But yes, Edwards should all be Japanese-made.

There's no way to ever confirm anything about my particular Les Paul... I don't have a serial number on mine. Who cares, it still sounds and plays like a dream.

Same here. So are the older ones non-serialed or the newer ones?

Not to be a jerk, but at $625 delivered, aren't you getting close to a near mint used Gibson?

Looks like a great guitar, are they more consistant than Gibsons, or are there other advantages (scale, neck profile, finish options) that I just am not considering?

I can't comment on Explorers, as I don't have Edwards ones(nor any Gibson ones for that matter). I bought the Edwards LPC copy because it is well-built and comes with pretty kickass hardware out of the box and still at 1/5 of the price of the real thing. I would have modded the shit out of the Gibson one too anyways(chrome hardware, different pickups etc. ), so it only made sense to go with Eddie. At the end I will have a kickass LPC well under a grand(even including the shipping) the way I want it without disturbing much of the resale value.

Oh, and supposedly you are getting the long neck-tenon(I will check when I am changing the pups) which Gibson LP Customs don't have. Plus I don't know I checked really really closely but the Mahogany back and neck seem to be one piece on this thing too. Also another Les Paul point, I don't think Edwards uses much dreaded weight-relief holes.

Re: Edwards Explorer

I think you're right about the swiss cheese holes. Yet, the Edwards Les Pauls are beautifully weighing guitars... the ones I've seen on Ebay have a weight range between a comfortable 8 and 10 pounds. Mine is smack in the middle... 8.8lbs. A perfect weight for me that is lighter than my old 10-pound Jackson KE3.

Really, the Les Pauls have features that borrow from the old Gibsons and seem incredibly consistent. That was part of the appeal for me.

Re: Edwards Explorer

Mine weighs a TON(11 lbs), especially compared to my other main guitar Korina KV-1. I started doing push-ups and sit-ups again since I got it!

Oh definitely I see the value in the LPs,

I just thought since the Explorer is a less expensive model, the value isn't quite as great as the Edwards LP.

Still a great price for a great looking guitar, and I am sure the quality is there.

Re: Edwards Explorer

Like Veli, i too have never played a Explorer, but I can tell you that you won't find a Gibson LP in the price range of an Edwards LP that plays or made that well.

It's the brand that's getting into the head of many people, not the actual quailty of the instrument.

Whenever there is a comparison, you will see a $5000 GIbson LP compared to a $500 import LPs. Doesn't sound very sensible to me. Maybe, "they" have a self-denial problem. hahahaha

Re: Edwards Explorer

I have a Gibson Gothic Explorer. It plays and sounds awsome, but it's build quality sucks. The fretwork is sloppy, I had wiring problems when I first got it and the finish was really cheap, started flaking off. I might actually consider buying one of these Edwards models. I love my Explorer, but I can't stand these little things when I paid for a guitar and it had all those imperfections. (More reason I love Jackson, haven't owned a bad one yet)

Re: Edwards Explorer

Well, played it for a while tonight, trying to get used to it.
Might be the satin finish on the neck that make it so different.
Neckshape is something like medium I think.
Weight? Medium +
Price? More than many of you think probably, but I think it´s worth it, so why care.. I live in Norway remember

What I really like is the lack of a pickguard and the finish. I also like the headstock that has no logo.

I´ll try a 85 in the bridge when I have some spare time, still sound a little thin IMO.
