Don't you hate indecisiveness? The other night at a show I played my Melody Maker for the first time, and I liked how light it was-very easy on the shoulder. It didn't sound bad but I would like a little more versatility for my main guitar, like my Heritage has. I would also like a little better upper-fret access than either of those guitars have, so an SG is perfect, plus, the model I want has that nice fat neck that I like so much. I need to be talked into it however, because one of the other guys in my band uses an SG for his main guitar, and the other one has one as a backup, and mostly because I don't like spending money.

Re: Talk me into buying an SG
Personally i think SG's are overated. They are pretty weak guitars as there isn't enough wood around the neck heel, which means the neck is easier to break. Plus i think the balance is crappy. Why not look into an Ibanez SZ320? the necks are similar to an SG neck, the body is made from a nice big slab of mahogany with maple on top and the neck joint is like a thru neck, although it actually is a set neck. I have one and it's a great guitar, even the stock pickups sound great.93 USA Soloist EDS

Which models of SGs have fatter necks? I thought they all had the '60s slim taper neck for some reason.I feel my soul go cold... only the dead are smiling.

SG stands for "sucky guitar"
sorry couldn't resist....i think they are cool, but AC/DC uses one, so to me that's ALL the reason NOT to have one. but i do like the one like glen buxton played....GEAR:
some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!
some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!
and finally....
i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

Re: Talk me into buying an SG
Paul Reed Smith SE series. Great guitars, great balance, light, great pickups, cheap, made really well etc...
I have a Santana SE that originally came with humbuckers, was changed to P90 soapbars and now has a set of McCarty's in it. It is my backup to my 1991 CE24 and I enjoy playing it ALOT. It sounds great too. They also make a Billy Martin model that is really nice and you could probably find a Tremonti single cut SE which is increasing faster in value than probably any import on the planet.

Re: Talk me into buying an SG
I don't like SG's much, especially the balance (although the Tony Iommi one looks pretty cool). EBMM Axis guitars are pretty good, in my opinion - although not mahogany - nice & light, good necks, great sound (well, I think so anyway). Good luck - but remember the usual on this site is that you'll probably end up buying an SG AND a load of other guitars. Wal - Good from far, but far from good

Re: Talk me into buying an SG
Get yourself an Older BC Rich Eagle, it's got pretty good access in the upper frets (now if I knew what I was doing up there)
