Re: Need to shred on a Budget? Check this out...

To be totally fair, just because a guitar is made China, Korea, or whatever 3rd world country doesn't necessarily mean it is complete crap. I have an SX GG2 that I think is Korean, and it's a great guitar. I also have a Xaviere, and I think that was made in Korea too. It's awesome. I did have to change the pickups, and tuners on both of them, but the construction of the actual neck and body (both are set neck) is very good quality.

      Will those guitars do metal?
Do you think one of those budget shredder guitars would sound good played through my Ubershall, Herbert or one of my boutique Matchless amps?

I think the Korean guitars are getting much better, but my main issue with Chinese guitars isn't China. It's the total lack of guitar players and rock 'n roll there. In Japan, they know the difference between a good Strat and a godly Strat and it showes in all the high end stuff that comes out of Japan. In Korea, they are getting better and the consistency of Korean instruments (which has been their biggest problem, traditionally) is getting far better. Chinese guitars are still just another assembly line product coming out of China. That will change, but it's more than just CNC machines and duplicating dimensions. If you are not actually a consumer of the goods you are producing you will not get it. Mind you, we're not talking about handmade Eastman archtops here, which I'll happily vouch for ; we're talking about Rondos.

          That'll soon come.

Nightclubs are starting to get 'in' in China, so will guitars and more & more of Western music.

I have no problem with China. I love Chinese food.

I have had no issues with China so far. At least they understand the concept of quality. I have heard horror stories about India and how they are so cost conscious that they will cut corners to save 5cents a unit for $2500.00 units in small batches.I have heard that Korea is pretty good but are pricing themselves out of the market.

My point is that you simply cannot tell if a guitar is a good one or not if you don't play guitar. You can certainly tell if it is exactly the same specs as the other 500 you've made that day, but that's it. Could you tell a 200 dollar student flute from a 2000 pro flute if I handed you the two of them? Again though, it just seems to me that the boys from Rondo are everywhere pushing their wares as if it is the answer to someone's prayers; I just don't see that someone around.
