The thing that I noticed is at the time was the only Fender Strats with Floyds were 21 fret necks :|

I believe 21 fret'rs are Mex imports. Recent 22s are USA. Older 22s might be either Jap imports or USA. ...I think.

        Re: OFR Fender Strats

Fender discontinued the USA Floyd Rose Classic Strat in 2003. They were in fact offered in an HSS or HH pickup config. as well as a maple or rosewood fretboard. They had a vintage 60's C back profile on the neck and vintage tuners which never made much sense to me. The necks were seriously tinted yellow and had a thick finish. I have played an HH with rosewood board in 3 color sunburst and an HSS with a maple board in 3 color sunburst. I prefered the rosewood board and the HH setup. It had a 5 way pickup switch that split the bridge and neck pickups in two positions. Very versitile. If I had to recomend one or the other I would totaly recomend the rosewood boarded HH Floyd Rose Classic Strat.

As of now...........there 2 Floyded Starts available. The first is a Made in Mexico Standard Strat with a licensed Floyd copy and an HSS pickup config. They have 21 frets and have rosewood boards only. No maple option. I have played one of these and found them to be pretty good axes. The other is a Deluxe Strat with the large 70's headstock that has classic vintage style tuners. I might be wrong on this one, but I can almost swear it's still in their lineup.

There was also an MIM Floyded Strat with the HSS config and they were D'Marzios. It was the Richie Sambora Signiture Series Strat. Not a bad axe either. It was also made in Mexico. It's basicaly a Standard Floyd Rose Strat with better pickups.

I hope I am accurate and I hope I have helped in some way.

I would love to have an OFR on a Strat, but I tend to reserve Floyds for my Jacksons. I like to have a vintage style 6 screw trem guitar in the arsenal. I like to have the option to drop tune here and there. At this time I am GASing for a Mexican made Fender Double Fat Strat in white with the black pickguard, pickups, knobs, etc. The only mods I will make would be a Duncan TB-4 JB bucker in the bridge and an SH-1 Jazz in the neck wired into a 5 way blade pickup switch so as to take full advantage of the four conductor wiring and be able to split each pickup as well as run in series and individualy. Down the road I would like to make all the hardware black and add a set of locking tuners and an LSR roller nut. After all that it would probably end up being my main guitar. Who knows.

          Nice, thanks

Now, to modify a regular strat, can it be done?

          [/ QUOTE ]

Don, yes.. they are easily modified for an OFR. I would get a body that has the older six screw std trem instead if the 2 point trem on the newer ones.

Here's one I parted together, its a mighty-mite body and 97 USA neck.

I'm really diggin the USA Fender necks and just scored another maple/maple and building an Artic white one, it will have an OFR on it too

ahhh man that looks amazing!I agree with you on the USA fender necks, they play well

Strats are wierd in the way when you 1st pick them up and play them they sometimes feel realy bad.I didnt think a lot of my Roadhouse strat when i 1st got it.sounded bad and the whole feeling of it was stiff. So i used it purely for chord work and ryth. Then about a year later it seemed to full into shape and felt very alive when playing.I have a JB jnr in the bridge and the guitar is a harmonic screamer that resonates amazingly. Anyway back to topic! The highway model range had Floyd rose and a few of the sig expensive models(bon jovi .HM strats had the Kahlers, and very solid machines too
