• Need help with choosing specs for my next GMW

I will be placing an order for a new GMW guitar (Lee accepted taking the order with certain conditions that I agreed on) and have decided on the following:

Bolt on Dinky style body with a flame top.
Maple neck with reverse banana headstock.
Recessed Original Floyd Rose
3 way toggle switch, 1 vol, 1 tone controls positioned ala Ibanez JPM guitar style
Dimarzio Steve's Special or Tone Zone for the bridge and an Air Norton for the neck

I am undecided and need your suggestions/opinions on the following:

1. Type of body wood - I am undecided between alder or a mahogany body with a 1/8 maple top. I will exclusively use this guitar for playing instrumental shred guitar music (Vai, Satch, MacAlpine, etc).

2. Color paint for body - Undecided in either Budman Pink (that's what Jackson called the color used on the discontinued PC1 Euphoria model) or Amber. Either way I want the top of the body to be flamed.

3. Fingerboard wood - Have no clue hear about what would sound the best and look good. My inclination is for rosewood, but maple appeals to me too. Not sure about ebony.

4. Binding of neck and headstock. Would like to have the headstock and neck binded in whote, but not sure about how it would look.

5. Headstock color. - Matching with body or black?

6. Hardware color - Black chrome or gold?

Any suggestions or opinions on these would be greatly appreciated.

1) alder is what is in the white JEMs so that'd be a good choice presumably - I know I love the sound of mine

2) I wouldn't pick either so you're on your own there

3) Ebony or rosewood is what tends to be on a lot of shredder guitars - rosewood is warm, ebony is a bit more articulate

4) I dunno

5) black

6) depends on the paint color - chrome almost always works with anything
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

1) Mahogany.
2) Amber.
3) Maple.
4) No binding (or black binding) if going with maple. White binding would be better if going with rosewood or ebony, IMO.
5) Matching headstock.
6) Gold hardware.

Like what? You pay the deposit, and your grandchildren pay the balance when it's ready?

Lee will accept orders for guitars now, but the headstocks can't strathead or jackson pinty style shaped.

ROFLMAO

It's funny cause it's true. Remember GMW goes by dog years and months. Been waiting over a year for something I was told 2 months max.

I don't have all the money for the guitar, so this time I'm in no hurry. I have owned GMW guitars before, so I know that the delivery timeframe could be very long. What I need now is opinions on the remaining specs I need to select for completing the order.

Re: Need help with choosing specs for my next GMW

My personal preferences are the exact opposite of what I am suggesting but for what you want, I think its correct.

Body wood I would go with Alder. Its nuetral. Mahogany is great for riffing but Alder has slightly more articulation on the highs. If you getting the bodywood trans finished then Lacewood would be a good option that looks very nice clear finished with a nearly identical sound to alder but a little fuller on the bottom end. There may be a small upcharge but its not a extremely rare wood.

Neck wise if your getting maple, if you want a maple fingerboard I'd go with Birdseye. If you don't want a maple fingerboard then Ebony is the best for shredding in my opinion. Its very articulate and bright. I think the sound is too brittle which is why I dislike ebony but for what you want I think Ebony is your best bet. Or a one piece Birdseye or flamed neck (the latter would look killer with the flamed body). Grats on what will surely be a killer guitar!

No pink! Please! Amber with gold hardware and no binding and matching headstock. If you go with binding I'd suggest cream binding on the whole guitar, otherwise don't do it cause it will throw off the balance.

Re: Need help with choosing specs for my next GMW

ok i know you said flame top, but if you can see about getting a lighter weight nice quilt maple, go SOLID.

Mahogany or Koa body
Paint our choice but i would use something that would bring out the the figuring of the maple.
me like ebony no inlays
binding again depends on color but i usually like creme binding, brite white just doesnt look right sometimes.
hardware depends on the color of the guitar, Black or natural guitars chrome looks good to me. Black HW looks better on solid finish.

1. Alder probably for the shred

2.PINK

3.Maple is my personal favorite

4.None for maple, white/creme for ebony

5.Matching....Flame and all

6.Chrome or Gold...keep it classy

Just my opinions

Re: Need help with choosing specs for my next GMW

Here's what I would do:

White body
Black binding
No neck or headstock binding
Maple neck and finger board
All black hardware
Hum/Sing pickup configuration
Maple body
Keep the reverse banana headstock and 22 jumbo frets

When I was done it would be a GMW ESP Kamakazi copy in white with black binding. The black body binding can be optional.

Just my 2 cents.

2. Amber
3. Maple board
4. No binding on neck/headstock
5. Black headstock
6. Chrome hardware...it sounds better
