I went for the GMW - I know the resale would be better on the Charvel, but I've yet to try a new one, and I love my 3 GMW stratheads!

I don't know if that is true. The few new Charvels that have gone for up for sale, have been no where near their new price, look at all the strathead reissues, those things took a huge hit on the secondary market, in some cases going for almost half of their street prices. I really haven't seen too many of the pointy "regular" ones go up, but those ones don't seem to be doing that much better.
Come and get one in the yarbles, if you have any yarbles, you yunick jelly thou!

I haven't tried a new Charvel so I have to go with GMW, with Lee you know what your going to get. I've heard mixed reactions on the new Charvels so until I try one for myself I'd go with GMW. The resale value might not be very different since it doesn't seem the new Charvels are doing so well either, aside form the custom shop ones. I'm amazed that NAMM one that Matt has didn't go out the door yet....

new charvel...the stratheads that i've played are great, and while i've had a gmw/moser, the lpc that i got from toru was refretted there, and not very well, i might add. if i had an issue with a new guitar, i'd have better warranty luck with charvel than i would with lee.

Pointyhead or strathead? It matters, as my answer will be different for each.

Price in the same ballpark, ie; $1500 or less, so were talking new pointy Charvel.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... that's a tough one.
I have both and love both, but I think I like my GMW a tiny bit more than my charvel, but probably because my charvel is a one hum and my GMW is a 2 hum with coil tap so I can do a lot more with it.
but I'd take either in a heart beat, both very nice

Right now, I'd side with a GMW, but only because I havn't played one of the new Charvels. I love my GMW's, and I'll be happy to see how the Dweezil Charvel stacks up. I'm hoping that I love the new Charvels even more.

Re: Poll: Used GMW Strathead or New Charvel?

I personally would go with a used GMW only because Charvel won't do a strathead.

As someone who was all pointies until I got my GMW with a strat headstock, I now have a half dozen stratheads and don't really look for anymore pointies...although they are great guitars I must be getting old

new Charvel. The necks are so fantastic. Killer nod to the old skool.

Ive played both and would go with a GMW. IMO I think its better quality and a hell of a better price.

Used GMW strathead vs. new Charvel pointy, eh? It depends, then.

If it's a GMW with specs that appeal to me, I might go there. And there are a LOT of GMWs out there that appeal to me. ...Unfortunately, there aren't many new Charvel stratheads that do.

Then again, the new Charvel pointies are killer, and you can order whatever you want. That's hugely appealing to me. Also, they've got the "legit" factor, which shouldn't be discounted.

So, more often than not, I'll default to new Charvel pointy. But if there's a cool GMW that cathes my eye, I'll sometimes go for that instead.

Great Pat...you missed your calling in life. You should have been a politician!

Lets try this: Both guitars are two Duncan humbuckers, strat body shape, solid colors, top mount Floyd, 22 fret, ebony board, standard heel, etc. The only difference at a glance is one has a strat headstock (GMW) and the other had a pointy headstock (Charvel). You can only buy only one. Make a choice.
