New MIK Hamers - good or bad?

    New MIK Hamers - good or bad?

    Has anyone tried out the new Hamer imports, specifically the Californian CALQ? Nobody around here carries them, and I'm really curious if they're decent guitars or total junk. The prices are so low that I have hard time believing that they're any good, but as much praise as budget brands like Agile and the MusicYo Kramers get, maybe there's something to them.

    i play an older korean hamer vector and it is VERY nice. a friend of mine carries them in his shop. i went down to check out a "newer" one (they have hamer XT on the headstock) and i thought it was total dog crap. my improt vector came with real duncan pickups, high quality hardware and cost like 800. these newer ones come with crap hardware, hamer pickups, and sell for about 399. there is a noticeable difference.

    but i am speaker of vectors, not californians. never seen one of the newer ones.
    GEAR:

    some guitars...WITH STRINGS!!!! most of them have those sticks like on guitar hero....AWESOME!!!!

    some amps...they have some glowing bottle like things in them...i think my amps do that modelling thing....COOL, huh?!?!?!

    and finally....

    i have those little plastic "chips" used to hit the strings...WHOA!!!!

      I believe most of the Hamer Imports are made in China now, a no go in my book. The older 90`s MIK Hamers are great guitars for the buck. Jack.

        It's really disappointing that a company can build some of the best super-Strats ever made, and then totally abandon them to make "boutique" guitars and shoddy imports. I had a MIK Standard that was pretty nice, but the body style just didn't work for me. I have two USA Californians, and the 27-fret import version was decent for the money from what I remember of trying one out.

        Oh, how the mighty have fallen...

          I've got an import Cali from back in the day and it rocks. I was wondering about the newer stuff too (the vector in particular)

            I have owned many USA Hamers, and can tell you they are top notch. The reason Hamer doesn`t make Super Strats any more, is because they want to get away from that era and image. I wanted to order a custom Chapparel, and was told NO, so I am going with a Jackson, their loss. Jack.
