Re: Double neck guitars

I saw one of those flat-top Wolfgang copy style OLPs in GC, but I figured $400 for a doubleneck meant it had to be cheaply made.

what's the deal with this brand? are they any good?

that MusicMan/wolfgang shape turns me off though.

      Re: Double neck guitars

I have an OLP 5-string bass. It's surprisingly good (note that I did not qualify that with "for the money"). The pickup was wretched so I replaced it with a Duncan Basslines pickup and it kicks butt.

I played one of the double necks at GC the other day and with new pickups and about an hour or two spent on setup/tweaking it would be a very worthy instrument.

I'll have to play one next time I'm at the store.

I have an Epiphone 1275 and the only mod done was new tuners. It sounds great and has great sustain. It weighs a ton. I moved the front strap pin to make it less head heavy. Screamin'

Peavey made some decent doublenecks in the 80's....can't remember the model name.
They weren't bad & they were bolt ons.....you could change your mind & put the 12 string neck & bridge on top or on the bottom.
I see them on Ebay reasonably priced from time to time.

Edit......that's right it was called the Hydra....here's one on Ebay right now.

Also.....this one is kind of nice...Dillion makes really nice quality import guitars. I have one of their Flying V's & it is great...Tracii Guns was using them on tour last year.

I' ve had or still have some doublenecks, the best in terms of price/quality are the OLP and Epi.

O.k., I didn't want to have to break out the big guns, but take THAT!

It's a 12, 7 and 6 string, all set necks. Sure, it's overkill, but the drunks in the audience love it.

Hey Subvamp, how does this -I suppose yours is branded under- Galveston plays and feels?

                      Re: Double neck guitars

This one I actually had made, but I have played the galvestons, and they weren't bad...had bolt-on necks. I did play a Rogue doubleneck (another import) that had set necks, and played surprisingly good, especially for the price!

Wow, subvamp, that's a seriously long distance between the bridges and tailpieces on you triple-neck guitar! Does that cause harmonics or 'ghosting' issues?

I've played one of those Rogue triple-neck guitars, and it was typical cheapie Korean/Chinese stuff, just three times as much...

This is giving me gas for a doubleneck (surprise!). If I hear Zeppelin over the weekend I'm likely sunk

It's actually done that way on purpose: When you play the lower necks, your forearm sits on the strings between the tailpiece and bridge, and that mutes any ghosting that would happen otherwise.
