I'm sure they are fine playing and sounding instruments, but the PRS Singlecut is an eyesore of an instrument.

The original PRS design is a classic, without a doubt, but the singlecut version just doesn't add up for me. In fact, that's one of the reasons I don't think it's confusingly similar to a LP--the LP is a beautiful and classic shape, while the Singlecut design seems clunky. I think the overall PRS body shape goes out of balance with the lack of an upper horn.

I try to judge guitars by how they play and sound, not by their looks. But it is definitely more difficult to be inspired by an ugly guitar.

i agree with some of you, the singlecut prs doesn't do anything for me looks wise, but i'm sure its a hell of a guitar, prs doesn't make shyt. I've been gassing for a prs, classic design, for months now. I've played quite a few at a local dealer and they're some of the best guitars I've ever touched. I'll own one one of these days, a classic prs is number 1 on my list. Number 2 is a soloist

The funny thing is we couldn't give Singlecuts away before the lawsuit, but as soon as production stopped everybody wanted one. I remember GC and Sam Ash blowing them out at dealer cost just to move them. It'll be interesting to see what happens now that they're back in production.

Re: PRS Singlecut is back

I'm happy to hear this! Yes! Right when they got pulled I was about to snatch one up and couldn't find one. I drove to El Paso TX even and couldn't find one. I was bummed because I had tried one out and got swayed awayfrom buying an Epiphone LP. I thought it had a good weight and balance. Stock pickups were good enough, but I had plans to change them to chrome covered Seymour Duncan TB-4 bridge and SH-1 neck, drop an extra volume pot and make both volumes push/pull coil taps and last but not least, install locking tuners. I figured I would have one hell of a guitar. I am talking about the under $500 SE Korean model, not the USA model. I was all over that silver finish too. This is like a sign of great things to come. Maple boards on Jackson imports..........import Strat-head Charvel imports maybe? The possibilities never end. SARJ is happy!

it is my understanding, from people on the inside, that it is not necessarily a given that they will be put back into production....As you said, they were not at all popular before the lawsuit, what would change that perception now?

I think it is far less than a given that they will be put back into production. Maybe a commemorative model with "fuck you Gibson" on the front.....

Shawn, did you read the press release?

"Paul Reed Smith Guitars announced today that it will immediately resume production of its Singlecut guitars."

SARJ,

I live in El Paso, Texas and if I would have know you were coming here to find a guitar I would have told you to go the opposite direction. There is only one PRS dealer in El Paso, Danny's Music Box, and they haven't had a PRS in stock for over year and a half and the last one they had they wanted $3889. We don't even have a retailer for Mesa Boogie. My last guitarist had to drive to Albequrque to Grandma's Music to buy his Triple Rectifier.
Damn, I love this Interweb.

actually my opinion is opposite, the LP is a boring and bland shaped that plays and sounds great and has great finishes to help their appearance, while the PRS SC has an overall classier vibe to it for me...

Yeah, I read it. Doesnt mean they are going to throw them into full production, thats just a statement saying.."Ok, we are open for business on these...Who wants one?"

Paul Reed Smith is a good buddy of a friend of mine. What Matt said is very true, these were the biggest dogs before the suit. They are not going to just jump into massive production of a past loser.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but I just don't get this one. I can't remotely find anything more classy about the PRS than the LP. I think the LP is a timeless classic that will always be the top dog of electric guitar design. I rarely play mine anymore in favor of strat style guitars, but none of them have the class factor of my black beauty. To each their own I suppose

I'm with Shawn, word is that they have quite a few finished and in process. I think that they will use these to fill the first orders.

I don't think the price will bottom out for a while. Now we'll see the rush to dealer phase.
