• Epi Zakk Wylde LPC preliminary review

I just got a bullseye Zakk Epi from Crusher. My first impressions of the guitar are:
<ul type="square">[*]very light weight - not too often you find mahogany this light[*]the neck shape is great - it is very comfortable[*]overall very good fit and finish.[*]the 3rd fret buzzes quite a bit[*]the EMG HZ pickups aren't awful but I don't like them too much[*]the controls work smooth, the tuners work smooth.[*]nice case![*]cheap plastic nut
So here is what I am going to do to it:
<ul type="square">[*]dress the frets - that should take care of the buzz[*]change the freakin' strings - geez these things were skeevy [*]replace the pickups - I have a black Iommi for the bridge and I'm thinking of putting this wonderful Benedetto pickup in the neck position - if the Benedetto doesn't work out I will try a Dimeola neck pickup in there.
I want REAL change. I want dead bodies littering the capitol.

There is a Dimeola pickup?

Be curious to hear how that one sounds as he's such an eclectic and amazing player.

Yep. I've not heard it yet. You can still get them via special order.

Al did a clinic at my old job last year. I never really heard his stuff before, but he's such an amazing player. He has a grasp of rhythm more than most dudes I've ever known and he's a very cool lead player too. Let us know how those pups sound dude. I always wanted a Zakk Wylde Gibson. Always wanted to do that black/mirror bullseye he's got on one of his guitars

I like your backyard Tim, I am assuming the pic is taken at your crib.
I can see a few chairs, an amp, a cool axe and a bucket full of ice w/ select domestic and import brews as refreshments.

Stop on over my friend. Plenty of room. I've got plenty of guitars and amps. And I can be easily persuaded to run out and grab some extra beer.

Re: Epi Zakk Wylde LPC preliminary review

You know, there is a buzzsaw (black and orange) Epi Zakk Wylde at a local store here in CT. I didn't notice what they were asking, but I'm interested now after reading this. I'd probably change out the pickups myself. I think the thing I like most would be the oiled neck. How does the neck feel Tim? More like Raw wood or satin finished?

The neck is satin finished. I played it again today when I took it out to snap pictures. The neck is really nicely shaped - very comfortable. Once it's setup and pickups are swapped I think this is going to be a very good guitar.

Sleep. The sound doesn't collapse to riffs of early eyes either.
