• New Grosh on order

After a long absence, I'm trying to get back into being more active around here. (It's a long story involving a new job and a cross-country move...) But being that you folks are the largest group of guitar maniacs I know, I thought I'd share with y'all the new guitar I've got on order.

The guitar is being fashioned after a coffee mug that my wife thought would be a cool color for a guitar. It's a dark metallic red. To add to that, I wanted the following items:

- Bent Top - maple over mahogany with natural "binding" ala PRS
- 1-5/8" medium roundback neck with flame maple and a vintage tint
- reverse headstock (always wanted a reverse headstock)
- Steve Morse bridge hb and VirtuAL2 neck sc (Steve Blucher recommended the neck pickup)
- 6105 fretwire
- locking tuners
- vintage trem (I debated the Floyd but nixed it)

I think the guitar should be finished late this year or early next. All I know is that I can't wait to play it!

One of my best friends has had about a dozen of the guitars pictured on the Grosh web site. They are phenomenal guitars. I was fortunate enough to get his scalloped Grosh:

Here's his baby:

Congrats! You are going to be thrilled.

Well, the prices are reasonable when you look at what other builders/companies are charging for true custom instruments. I don't think Fender could build me a similar guitar for anywhere near the price, for instance.

I believe I know who your friend is. I remember seeing the scalloped Retro before it got delivered and really liking it. I'm glad that that guitar has a good home. I know he sold some of his other guitars, too, and I hope that they are well-cared for.

As for the shop he got his Groshes from, well, that's who I ordered mine through. Lyle was a huge help in getting all of the details on mine set.

I dunno about Fender, but Jackson is certainly cheaper than Grosh, Bc Rich as well or they used to be. When you compare the upcharges. The base prices aren't bad but some of those upcharges are over the top. I don't think the prices are too out of line for a boutique guitar though. Warrior and Driskill are pretty close to the same maybe a bit cheaper but you pay for what you get, a quality instrument.

Cool, Tim - glad to hear it. I still love that scalloped white one. Don hasn't done many with the scallops so that's a pretty rare one.
