• Back to Doublenecks

I'm looking around with possibly purchasing an electric doubleneck 12/6. I keep looking, but I ran across an Ovation acoustic/electric doubleneck. Never thought about an acoustic, but it looks nice. Anyone play one or have tried one.

My dad owns a Balladeer 6 string and that guitar has great sound. (I just don't like the 'bowl' feature). I've also owned an Ovation Celebrity . I think this doubleneck was a Celebrity.(Hiss)

Do they make Balladeer/Adamas doublenecks? My priority would be an electric, but I'm not hard to sway.

I tend to cruise the Warmoth thrift shop (or whatever they call it now), because quality double-neck bodies at a decent price crop up every so often. I've noticed if you want something that doesn't break the bank, but isn't a piece of garbage, then you need to put it together yourself.

I have an Ovation doubleneck, (celebrity is the only non custom they make as far as I know). Sounds great plugged in, I wasn't a big fan of the bowl factor either but i got used to it pretty quick, plus I used to have a washburn doubleneck acoustic and the body on that was friggin huge and i'm a fairly big guy. I was surprised at the size of the ovation compared to the washburn, much smaller. be prepared for the Jovi references though!
I would love to get my hands on one of the guild dbl necks with the acoustic 12 and electric 6.
I also have the Epiphone dbl and it was nice to do a pretty little 12 string thing and then kick into a rock tune on the 6 neck ,but the 12 neck isn't cuttting it for me, I'm considering putting a piezo in the 12 bridge.
I don't know what your plans are about the dbl neck, but that just my random thought/experiences with them. I love the look of them too.

Seriously though, I did see a Gibson 12/6 on ebay and almost jumped at it, but I want to "sit back and learn" for a while. I ran across the Ovation 12/6 and was curious. I did make a mistake earlier in my post, when I said I owned a Celebrity. I believe it was an Applause. But all in all, the 70's Balladeer my father owns is about the best I've heard in an acoustic. It's not electric though.

I played one of these at a Guitar Center a few weeks back and it was incredible. I'm not a tupperware fan either, but it was just sitting there on the floor and I had time and damn it played excellent. perfect setup on this one, low action, no buzz and it was tuned almost perfect, which is saying a lot for a guitar sitting out in the open at that friggin zoo of a store.

I really liked it, more than I wanted to....

they had it priced at $899,which seemed reasonable considering how nice it played and sounded. the 12 neck was really rich sounding.

I bought a vintage cherry burst Gibson 12/6 and it took one day for me to fall totally in love with it. Of course, it had a primo setup job from the dealer in Tampa, but the 12 string adds such incredible depth to everything you play.

Did someone say HEAVY? If you plan to gig with a guitar like this, you better hit the gym or buy a back brace. Good luck in your search!

The Ovations can be difficult to play seated. They tend to slip. I have an epiphone. I changed the tuners and now it is great. Thay are very heavy and tend to want to drop the necks toward the floor.

I played one of these today, and it was awesome! I really liked it a lot, though not the 999 proce at GC, for 500 of the 'Bay this is a great stage acoustic, and a lot of fun. I'm thinking I may get one now mtyself.
