about Rickenbackers, that's interesting, I'd have never guessed. they are so damn ugly and clunky looking...

you know they invented sharkfin inlays long before Jackson started using a modified version.
the guitar players look damaged - they've been outcasts all their lives

The best playing guitars I had..Ibanez JP-1 and BC Rich USA Gunslinger (early 80s I think). Both those guitars smoke anything I've played since then. The Ibanez was a shred machine and the petrucci switch is something I loved so much I put it on my import Kelly and now on the custom shop death angel I just ordered. The BC Rich was just the best all around guitar. Comfortable, fast to play on and it just screamed.

Mine was so easy to play. I still sold it, just didn't have the vibe I wanted.

Re: What\'s the easiest/effortless playing guitar..

This is sort of a question like who is the best guitarist.

                All depends upon personal preferences.

Yeah guitars with thinner necks are faster in certain regards although I can play as fast on my PC1 as my Ibanez Jem. But I have big hands. The Jem had a great neck if that is all you were looking for was speed - probably the fastest neck I have played period.

But what about vibrato - thin necks typically tire your hands out especially if you have bigger hands and if you use a lot of vibrato. The Jem had a shitty neck for vibrato. For that you need something to grab on to. I am not talking run of the mill vibrato - I am talking about world class type - like a whole vocabulary of vibratos - the kind that takes a lifetime of development. For that you need a neck you can grab on to and get some leverage from. Typical C shape or larger usually. For this I have found my PC1 the very best of them all.

Then you have tone. Some guitars have no tone. Others get tone effortlessly. Tone comes from a number of things including picking technique, variances in finger contact and pressure and angle, string heigth, wood combination, pups, amp, etc... I have found for my own personal preferences that I like maple fingerboards and necks. The rosewood/ebony necks seem quieter to me with less growl. I have noticed I prefer the sound of a bolt on neck above the other designs.

Then you have harmonics, sustain, articulation. All these things combine into the total experience of playing and sound emulating from your guitar.

So this question can be very subjective and complex depending upon how far you want to take it.

I looked for years for the best combination of all of the factors above and found it in my PC1. But that is obviously just my own personal preference because of the way I personally play. I at times play extremely fast so articulation and speed become important. I use a lot of expression so vibrato, sustain and harmonics become important because they lead to tone.

I went through a lot of guitars to get to this one including Gibson Firebird, SG, Fender Strat, PRS, Hamer Californian, Ibanez Jem, Jackson SL2, Jackson Warrior, Charvel, Parker Fly. Also have played most high end customs including Suhr, Anderson, Baker, Warrior, Zion, Tyler, and many many more. And most shred guitars like Kramers, etc...

This guitar just fits me. But no one guitar is for everybody.

Re: What\'s the easiest/effortless playing guitar..

Mine would have to be a toss up between my
Blue GMW (my Avatar) and my old 75 les paul Deluxe (that I sold like an idiot).
but I agree with shawn, if it's a good quality guitar taht can be set up correctly, it should play well.
ow neck thickness etc, is all personal preference.
If this is our perdition, will you walk with me?

I've had lots and lots of Ibanezes, but the Jem7VWH had the best neck to me. I'll keep my charcoal '90 Pro Soloist forever, and to tell you the truth the D'Angelico New Yorker comes close to playing itself as well. The Explorer I just got from Siggy is fantastic....I just like guitars. All of 'em.

I agree with a few others here who mentioned the parker fly deluxe being very easy to play but having said that any good guitar with normal action should be just as easy to play.I have no trouble playing LP's or strat shapes, after a short time you get the feel for it and adjust your tech to match the axe

My 1996 SL2H pile'o'skull is my favorite one. The neck shape is very different (thinner) than the new ones.

Parker Fly Deluxe. No question, it owned everything else I've played in terms of smooth effortless playing.

This is an excellent question. I am unsure of what you mean by easy. Easy to bend like the strings are soft?

It would have to be my floating floyds. I put down my 81 prepro and grabbed my model 6 and was again impressed by the feel of it. The neck is an ait craft carrier by comparison. easy to wrap your hand around but wide enough to land a plane on. The trem moves like butter. I am instantly playing loopy licks with soft trem taps and raises. After a 1/2 hour I grab a later strathead with floating floyd and have a similar expirience.

My 7 string Ibanez rg... I can play it effortless really, I'm not that much a strong guy, and in natural tuning I can hardly play 0.10 strings, so that guitar is really important for me. I was planning to buy a better 7 string rg, but I thought I shouldn't sell it... Hope I can buy another one without selling it, to see if all of the 7 string rg's are like mine...
