Has anyone ever played one of these? This may be my safe, affordable 6-string alternative to a Universe. I am looking to know how the stock pickups sound, how the neck feels in terms of playability, how the good or bad the guitar looks in person, and any other commments you may have.

    Thanks,

Man, Ibanez has put so many models out over the years, but I have only played a few of them. My opinion is the Japanese ones play smokin quick and very smooth. I don`t usually like skinny necks, but even the Wizard neck feels alright, but I just love the little thicker Wizard 2 neck on my RG421. Good luck bro-Jack.

Be carefull as I think these are made in Indonesia... pups are super cheap and the neck feels super cheap too. Japanese and some of the Korean Ibanez models (like the SZ series) are the ONLY ones to buy.

I wouldn't go for an RG3xx, personally. The resale is non existant. Aim for an RG5xx or an RG25xx

What I would really like is a black ibanez rg 7 string with two hums and a floyd that I could put a mirror pickguard on. I would replace the stock pickups, swap all the hardware for silver hardware, and possibly replace the neck with a bound ebony fretboard that has no inlays. I am thinking I could get a higher end rg on evil bay for a decent price that I could do all the mods to. I am wondering if by the time I got done doing all that stuff, it would not be worth it just to go buy the damn universe.. any advice?

I know where you can get an Ibanez 7-string floyd w two hum body to start out with, but I'm guessing you're not looking to piece it together?

I think you'd be much better off to just buy the Universe. It's easy to sink a lot of time and money into mods, and the end result typically has little resale value if you decide to move onto something else.
