• Musikraft neck for Warren D Skull&Blood project??

I scored this body on Ebay.

It looks pretty damn good in person & will make a nice project guitar to gig with.

I'm after an all maple 22 fret strathead neck with as much of the Charvel strathead feel, look & vibe as I can find. I had one CustomWoods neck & was really not impressed.

Has anyone had experience with the Musikraft necks? They look pretty nice from their website.

Anyone???

Nice body & graphic. Did you buy that from Michael Piper?

I was under the impression that Customwoods was a guy that either works for Musikraft or sells some of the Musikraft seconds etc... I've always hear that Customwoods=Musikraft.

There's a few people on here who have Musikraft Charvel Strathead copies/replicas that seem to have good things to say about them.

I don't know of anybody who make exact copies of the Charvel Straheads. Musikraft seems to be the closest but even there Charvel copies aren't exact. Among other things, I think their Charvel strat headstock is shaped slightly different than the Charvel/GMW strat headstock.

I'm sure someone else on here can chime in with some more info.

Re: Musikraft neck for Warren D Skull&Blood project??

I heard the same thing that Custom Woods are just Musikraft blems, scratch & dents or factory seconds.

I have one that I believe is a Musikraft that I bought used off of eBay and I like it. I have a custom order in right now being built to my specs that should be done in the next couple weeks. I'll let you know.

As far as how close to the originals they are I don't know. I'll compare it to my Jackson stratheads and GMW's when I get it. On my order I wasn't really going for the exact Charvel specs, I was going for a reversed strathead with a neck profile and radious I like...big and chunky I think the trained eye can see the slight difference in the headstock shape as well but I don't care about that, I'm not out to totally fake anyone, I just don't like pointy headstock shapes amymore

I have a Musikraft neck and it seems to be a nice neck. I also have Customwoods stuff, which is a better replica to the SD stuff in my opinion, but as far as quality goes with the Customwoods stuff, they must have been made on a Friday afternoon. I have several GMW's and I have an old Jackson strathead too. I think they all are the same vibe, but none of them are identical. Even the GMW necks from different years are slightly different. If I was forced to choose between the Customwoods and the Musikraft, I would go with Musikraft based on my personal experience. Others here have used the Customwoods necks and think they are great. Maybe I just got a couple not so good ones. Good luck! Mark

Customwoods was just an ebay ID, wasn't it? I mean, there's no "Customwoods" logo on those necks, right?

Very interesting thread and a question that I was going to ask also.
I have a few guitars that I would love to put a new neck to my specs on . Instead of blowing so much $$ on more guitars , change the neck + pickups etc . . Instant new guitar !!
Like Shawn , I am moving away from pointies . I have a silver sparkle pointy that I would love to put a matching strathead maple neck on .

Yeah, that's what I always thought. I think that's just the guys Ebay account name and everyone just started to call them Customwoods necks.

Re: Musikraft neck for Warren D Skull&Blood project??

Yep I got the body from Michael Piper. He tells me that he cuts these bodies himself & does the paint too.

The paint work is very impressive....not quite a Dan Lawrence finish...but very good.
Some of the details of the body are a little off from Charvel specs (edge radius...comfort bevel..etc) but I'm not trying to fool anyone here.

As for a neck....I guess I did hear that Customwoods was just an Ebay name & that they were made by Musikraft.

The Customwoods neck that I have is just kind of bad.....tooling marks in the face of the headstock, very rough fret ends, poorly leveled frets, position marker dots that are oddly shaped & not completely round (doesn't look intentional), brass side marker dots that are crooked...etc.....The one I'm describing came to me second hand on a Charvel parts mutt (I was swapping in an original San Dimas Strathead neck anyway).

I just don't want these qualities in a new neck that I buy for this project.
I guess I'm really just looking for quality & a neck that will look right on this guitar....as all of my Charvel & GMW necks do vary quite a bit.

Re: Musikraft neck for Warren D Skull&Blood project??

I got her in today. Pretty nice, I'll order more. My only problem, the body I planned on using it with is @ Paul's (bighead) At first glance it looks to be on par with the GMW and Jackson stratheads I have. It feels really nice, birds-eye is nice and frets look pretty good as well. Of course I won't know for sure until I can play on it.

As fars as how close the headstock shape is I can't tell, its real close but I'm not that anal about it nor am I tryin to fake anyone out by it. The back of the headstock where it meets the neck looks a little different but if you look at the specs I selected (see below) I'm not looking to copy anything, just what I thought I'd like, and I guessed good on the order because I do like it

Also I have confirmation that my sparkle Blackhorse body guitar is a Musikraft neck too so I guess I'm 2 for 2 with Musikraft.

Here was the specs for the one that came in today.

Comment: Tuner holes to accomodate standard Gotoh or Schaller tuners as
found on Charvel guitars

I went with the vintage style single acting truss rod.

Shawn.....I see you went with the dual acting truss.

The reason I went with the single acting is that I once ordered the dual acting truss rod on an all maple Warmoth tele neck for a project guitar.

That neck was very heavy....it made the guitar neck-heavy & unbalanced.

Anyone else have a similar experience ever?

I know that a dual action truss rod adds some high end to the sound.
